i hate tinsel - think it's a bit of a tack fest - and i want to get some new decorations for the tree but don't know whether to get ribbon or beads? what do you think looks nicer?

both

we use both

I don't like tinsel either, so Iuse beads and ribbon as well. DH always complains that there's no tinsel on it, but since I do it, its none of his damn business!

oooh hadn't thought about using both. is there a way of using both that won't mean my tree looks terribly overdressed? btw when i say ribbon i don't mean those bows that go on the end of the branches i mean ribbon that comes on a reel.

I use both, I am allergic (ish) to tinsel, I can't even go near it.

I have a band of beads and a band of ribbon alternating all the way down the tree. Its usually a 6 footer and I think its only about 3 rows of beads and 3 of ribbon. Classy I say! I've got that ribbon with wire in it, so it stands up nicely and you can twist it a little bit

Not if your careful, and depends how big your tree is. I have a very full traditional one so it can take ribbons etc. Just go easy on it, you can always take some off.

Ditto Maureen.
