How to agree a budget between families?

I don't want to seem like I'm imposing a certain cost on the family, but at the same time it would be helpful to know how much they intend to spend on DC so I can ensure I don't go overboard or too cheap with presents for nieces/nephews.

How do you have this conversation?

Should I just say, hope you don't mind but we will be working on a budget of £20 per child this year. Please let me know if there is anything in particular I can get them?

Have you had this conversation and if so how?

Do you stop buying for siblings once they all have children?

We just, once every one had DC, said “shall we just get for the children this year?”. Everyone happily agreed.

I think the way you phrased it about the £20 budget & asking if there’s anything you can get them sounds perfect.

Your suggestion sounds ideal.
