Christmas Stocking Breakfasts

Does anyone do these? Halo

I've come up with a few ideas for breakfast on Christmas morning and as I cook the dinner I'd like it to be as simple as possible. I have me and DP sorted but I was thinking of incorporating the breakfast into the stocking for the DC, just for a bit of fun and ease on a hectic morning.

Does anyone do this? What do you put in?

I love Christmas breakfast threads, people always have fab ideas! I have never succeeded in getting DS to eat anything before opening presents (maybe a bit of chocolate from his stocking if I'm lucky!) Xmas Blush DH isn't really bothered about Christmas breakfast either. I used to make the Nigella Christmas morning muffins which smell lovely, but due to lack of interest these days I tend to eat a big chunk of panettone with some nice coffee and try not to nag my family about eating as they'll make up for it later...

A sausage, a lovely bit of black pudding and some mushrooms all stuffed lovingly into a handmade stocking sewn from slices of bread. Sounds awesome!

NorthernDramaLlama · 20/08/2021 11:41

Santa always brings a multipack of mini cereals, a pannetone, those straws with the beads in which you suck milk through and some mini cartons of fruit juice. Breakfast is served when these are found in stockings

TheFairPrincess · 20/08/2021 11:44

Ahaha @raffle that sounds amazing Grin

I was actually thinking of stuff to go in the kids stocking so I don't have to prepare anything Blush

I had a look online but a lot is very bog standard.. I was thinking about maybe getting an M&S bakery item as they come in cute individual boxes, some nice drink cartons and a traditional orange maybe?

But I'm very happy for this to be a general christmas morning breakfast thread :)

Do you bother to cook stuff? I was hoping this year to maybe pick some Starbucks or Costa stuff the night before as it's my favourite!

@NorthernDramaLlama that sounds perfect, flavoured milk straws are definitely going on the list such a good idea

I wouldn’t put it in their stockings, I’d have been well pissed off as a kid if I’d got an orange juice and croissant instead of toys!!!

Could you not get something easy and prep the night before? Frozen croissants take minutes, stick some nice butter and jam on the table and you’re done.

CabbagesGreen · 20/08/2021 11:46

This sounds a great idea!

Oldtiredfedup · 20/08/2021 11:46

We often do Salmon and bagels - NOT stocking friendly 😁

CabbagesGreen · 20/08/2021 11:46

Satsuma?

MauveMagnolia · 20/08/2021 11:48

No 1 rule of Christmas

Keep it simple. The best Christmas's are the simple ones, children don't remember the twirly add ons and they make it so much more complicated.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 20/08/2021 11:48

In the past in her stocking DD has had chocolate milkshake cartons with straws, individually wrapped madeleines, and (which went down best of all), one of those Nutella 2 go pots with mini breadsticks and Nutella. It did get everywhere though: so much for pristine Christmas morning pyjamas 😂🤦‍♀️

You would have go to M&S on Christmas Eve?
TheFairPrincess · 20/08/2021 11:50

@Ostryga don't worry my DC's stockings are huge and already have a comprehensive planned list of toys Grin

I thought it would be a nice novelty for them and they get chocolate in it anyway, so rather than just eating chocolate they will get a more breakfasty treat too. I have gone off the rails though planning elaborate chilled milk drinks though, I need to calm down Blush

@MauveMagnolia 23rd will be fine for a muffin!

@irresistibleoverwhelm that sounds lovely and very enjoyable for your DD Halo

It works quite well as (despite Nutella stains!) it’s about as much as an excited DD will eat for Christmas morning breakfast anyway, plus the novelty of it means she likes them and at least there’s a mini breadstick or two in there - compared to the alternative, which is DD stuffing down a Lindt Santa at 6am.

You can get really nice organic or non-dairy milkshakes in a carton which keep them happy and far better than whipping something elaborate up yourself!

When we all get up we tend to have just some croissants and pain au chocolat - I tried the baking Nigella muffins and bagels with scrambled eggs, but DD was too excited to eat much and the effort just bypassed her entirely, so just pastries worked out just as well, and far less fuss for us!

23rd is worse than the 24th.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 20/08/2021 12:14

@TheFairPrincess - Ocado now deliver M&S stuff but not fresh bakery AFAIK. I would agree that the 23rd is probably one of the worst days to shop, but then I rarely shop in person these days so may be behind the times.

TheFairPrincess · 20/08/2021 12:15

Um does it really matter? Confused This is the Christmas board, I didn't expect such emphatic naysayery!

I have decided on an M and S yum nut, some percy pig juice cartons and some yoghurt covered strawberries :)

OP posts:
TheFairPrincess · 20/08/2021 12:16

Sorry that was to @MauveMagnolia and was light hearted :)

I have a big M & S within walking distance of my house and I actually yearly pop out to get last minute bits that I've forgotten or that didn't come in the 22nd delivery, if I go early the bakery should have plenty of stuff I imagine.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 20/08/2021 12:19

Ive been doing this for years, Stockings full of chocolate, no one wants breakfast!

FrancisCross · 20/08/2021 12:58

The only acceptable Christmas breakfast for my kids is selection boxes. Last year M&S did a triple chocolate panettone which DH & I enjoyed warmed with freshly brewed coffee.

thelegohooverer · 20/08/2021 13:54

You obviously don’t have one like mine who would insist on keeping the muffin forever because it came from Santa.

It’s a lovely idea though.

TheFairPrincess · 20/08/2021 14:05

@thelegohooverer that is adorable Grin

Vickles20 · 20/08/2021 14:14

How old are your kids OP?
I always put a drink and snacky things for them for when all mine open their stockings at like 5am!! I refuse to get up that early now they’re older (16.13.10.8)
Fruit shoots
Small Pringles can from Poundland
Individually wrapped caramel waffle (the nice chewy round ones. Starbucks or costa sell 2 single ones in a pack)

That keeps them going until 8 ish when we do croissants/fresh bread etc
