Christmas Stocking Breakfasts

Does anyone do these? Halo

I've come up with a few ideas for breakfast on Christmas morning and as I cook the dinner I'd like it to be as simple as possible. I have me and DP sorted but I was thinking of incorporating the breakfast into the stocking for the DC, just for a bit of fun and ease on a hectic morning.

Does anyone do this? What do you put in?

My DC are adults now but when they were little I made up milkshake in tiny glass milkbottles (Lakeland ) , a box of the individual cereal , and some plain milk in a small botlle.

When DS was little he wouldn't eat if he was excited then got really cranky . I used to make a packet of sandwhiches , cut into fingers and wrapped in foil with some decoractive stickers and telll him
"Oh, Action Man left these for you .." Xmas Grin

(I used to phone Dr Who's Mum to ask what Dr Who was having for his dinner and ask DS if he wanted that too Xmas Wink )

Mine used to get little pots of lucky charms or some other cereal they weren't normally allowed, can of fizzy juice, apple and orange, bag of chocolate coins, pound coin and a lucky dip lottery ticket 😁
But, I'm im Scotland and that kind of does tend to be what's in a stocking anyway - were your stocking is an actual sock and has fruit in doesn't have toys etc.

Christmas breakfast on my house is buttered croissants for the adults and Nutella'd ones for the kids. Light enough for the day of eating ahead.

This is a great idea, I'm stealing the drinks cartons/snacks from the world food aisle idea.

My DC when little I'd always put in a healthy-ish treat but something they'd want, like the bear yo yo fruit spirals or the little Organix biscuits for toddlers that are sweetened with fruit juice. Now they're a bit older I don't think that'll fly so was considering putting a gingerbread man in each of their stockings. Gregg's do nice ones you could wrap up and they keep quite well.

We do stockings then brunch then presents/walk/queen's speech & seasonal tv then Christmas dinner at about 7pm. Means you odn;t spend the entire day feeling sleepy from the heavy food.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I love that idea, is it weird I'm thinking of doing little bottles of "Reindeer milk" [confused

Ha - you want this face Xmas Confused with the hat . Xmas Grin

I bought a cereal advent calender one year , huge con and waste of money bit of a diappointment , 4x3 of the cereal (so CocoPops/Rice Crispes/Cornflakes x4 ) but not special wrapping once you took the cellophane off .

I've seen individual boxes in a pickn'mix style ,probably better value .

They loved the tiny mixer cans of soft drinks , tiny Nutella jars, Bonne Mamam jam in the single serve jars .

They're 19 and 21 now so more likely to haul themselves downstairs at the uneartly hour of 10am and ask "Have we got croissants/can you make pancakes/have you made bread?" , graze like locusts then pooter off .

Traditional shaped biscuits would be lovely, like a gingerbread man or an iced Christmas tree. That’s presuming they are old enough to eat rigid biscuits of course.

@TheFairPrincess
I work at M&S and i have often asked the bakery to let me have muffins frozen (shock horror they are not made on site 😱🤣) that way you can get them wherever you want.
Personally we normally get some frozen pastries, take a few minutes then the kids over dose on selection box and pain au chocolat, Fun times!

I like the idea of breakfast bits in the stocking. We don’t open anything apart from stockings till after lunch, and the washing up, is done. Means I get to actually enjoy it with everyone!

Sleepthieved · 22/08/2021 22:06

That's such a cute idea! My 2 year old has breakfast in bed as soon as he wakes up every day (normally a croissant/ oat bar and fruit) so now I'm really excited to do a special Christmas day version! I did let him have chocolate coins in the morning last year, but that may have contributed to a very grumpy Christmas day, so I'm thinking a tiny couple of coins at the bottom after a decent breakfast!!

We have a grown up breakfast of smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, bucks fizz and English muffins with a special citrus and pomegranate fruit salad with ginger, lime and maple dressing. Little one will have a place at the table for breakfast pt 2 but unlikely to eat more than a couple of nibbles.

Always a proper breakfast before presents - Christmas breakfast always felt so special to me as a child, and I hope to make it the same for mine :)

TheFairPrincess · 22/08/2021 22:51

@Sleepthieved that is such an interesting meal!

Christmas breakfast for us was always chocolate! I'm glad you have special memories of it Halo

And yes I'm hoping the combination of my very extra stockings plus a decent breakfast packed in will mean I finally get to test out not opening tree presents til a little bit later in the morning.

Although, if I'm more organised perhaps I won't be up wrapping til 1am on Christmas eve, then up again at 4 to put the presents out, and therefore will feel more rested in the morning so it's not such a blur :)
