Christmas Stocking Breakfasts

Does anyone do these? Halo

I've come up with a few ideas for breakfast on Christmas morning and as I cook the dinner I'd like it to be as simple as possible. I have me and DP sorted but I was thinking of incorporating the breakfast into the stocking for the DC, just for a bit of fun and ease on a hectic morning.

Does anyone do this? What do you put in?

Some Christmas threads on here have mentioned older teen snacks in stocking. Pop tarts. American cereals etc. But they’d need to be older enough to do it all themselves.

We always have mini bitesized pizzas and spring rolls... dont even know how it started its just one of those traditions that started by accident.

LadyDanburysHat · 20/08/2021 14:20

We've always done mini boxes of cereal in the stocking. There are mini fizzy pop cans too, which they can drink at breakfast if they want too (only at Christmas). Both boys are now teens and require two cereal boxes, and probably something else later on. But they'd be disappointed if the usual items didn't appear.

I often add things like the milkshake straws too.

We do stockings upstairs, then get dressed and straight to church. Tree presents are when we get back.

We have a Father Christmas mini cool bag. FC always leaves chocolate brioche / pain au chocolate and orange juice cartons. Somehow last year he managed to get hold of little snack bags of Kramer cereal and filled up the grown ups travel cops with their preferred beverage.

He’s also been know to leave cheese and crackers or sausage rolls. It depends which way the wind is blowing.

After tree presents we have brunch, then Christmas dinner at 6/7pm. The kids usually fall asleep watching a film.

These all sound like lovely days Halo

Mine are little so I'll be there with them, I do really have time to do more and have done in the past but I thought it would be a cute idea and save me a little time/clutter!

We tend to scoff croissants whilst opening the main presents from under the tree. Ds stocking does usually contain a bag of Christmas Percy pigs though.

I dream of a Christmas where we don’t open main presents until very late morning or even after Christmas dinner. But every time I suggest it I get shock horror and absolute refusal.

Herja · 20/08/2021 14:36

Father christmas brings interesting individual juices from different countries (from local eastern european food shops. One per stocking) and unusual biscuits/nuts as part of the stocking gifts. These form breakfast, along with chocolate.

TheFairPrincess · 20/08/2021 14:40

@Herja I love that idea! From his travels around the globe!

@MissyB1 I have always been curious about this because everyone I know personally does presents first thing in the morning.. What is the thinking behind opening them later, is it that there's more to look forward to?

I feel like my DD would enjoy that but I feel like it would ruin the day for my middle son as he would just be obsessing over what was in those presents all day!

@TheFairPrincess
The reason I would like to open presents later is that I would be more awake and relaxed and therefore enjoy it more. I feel like the first thing in the morning opening frenzy doesn’t do the whole thing justice. I would love to do it when we are full of Christmas pud, glass of fizz in hand, and ready to really appreciate the fun.

Great idea!
Thecomfortador · 20/08/2021 14:56

Love the juice from other countries idea. I try to get stocking stuff that isn't recognisable as 'normal' from Asda to them (rod/back - I'm sure they wouldn't actually care! But it's the magic haha).

I'm sure mine would enjoy little packets of crackers and jam and also they'd probably rip through a small bag of Bombay mix given the chance. I thought about those tiny jars of Nutella in stockings as well, but resented the price. If we go to a hotel before xmas I might snaffle a couple of mini jam jars from the breakfast buffet or something.

LadyDanburysHat · 20/08/2021 15:03

I've done the mini jars of nutella before. I'm kind if lucky that I have 3 DC and they usually come in a 3 pack. But they are expensive

HermioneKipper · 20/08/2021 15:10

We always do frozen pastries stuck in the oven on Christmas morning - waitrose do some lovely ones. Or those pop out of can croissants/pain au chocolate/cinnamon swirls. Yum yum

TheFairPrincess · 20/08/2021 15:59

@MissyB1 that is a really lovely idea Halo

Sainsbury’s do a nice cinnamon swirl ‘thing’ you just heat it in the oven, it is gorgeous and buttery with lashings of cinnamon sauce. I think it’s meant to be a dessert but we like to have it on Christmas morning. It’s so easy means there’s no dishes to wash up either!

Kids have a carton of innocent smoothie every morning anyway so I’ll just stick with that for drinks.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/08/2021 19:50

What about some 'fancy' pop tarts. They don't need to be reheated.

Marmelace · 20/08/2021 19:53

Mine usually just have bacon rolls, I have coffee in a drip 😆 I've have just bought some kilner 1/3 of a pint milk bottles, I prefer them to using a jug when having a pot of tea. They are so cute and could be incorporated into some sort of breakfast hamper.

lachy · 20/08/2021 21:06

@Vickles20

How old are your kids OP? I always put a drink and snacky things for them for when all mine open their stockings at like 5am!! I refuse to get up that early now they’re older (16.13.10.8) Fruit shoots Small Pringles can from Poundland Individually wrapped caramel waffle (the nice chewy round ones. Starbucks or costa sell 2 single ones in a pack)

That keeps them going until 8 ish when we do croissants/fresh bread etc

Costa are doing 2 snacks for £2 at the moment. Including the very yummy stroopwaffles. Might be worth seeing if they are long dated?

The Nutella & Go pots are the ones with a teeny bit of Nutella and mini breadsticks - they’re £1 each and perfect for stockings!
LittleFroggie · 20/08/2021 22:33

Love the idea OP! We always put some edible bits in the stocking anyway. I need them to have something to eat before they find their presents as it’s chaos once they’ve seen their toys downstairs! Last year they had a Christmas cookie, carton of juice and a satsuma in the stocking which they loved. Tempted by the chocolate milk suggestion and the Nutella pots!!

TheFairPrincess · 20/08/2021 22:39

Thank you for all the ideas! I can't wait :D

DC used to get treat breakfast food in Christmas stockings like rare pop tart flavours or chocolate milk. Not the best idea as it was way too much sugar at the start of the day, but these were things they never had on any other day. DH used to get a vast box of Coco Pops Grin

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 21/08/2021 08:05

We used to put a carton of fruit juice and something like a breakfast bar or flapjack at the top of the stocking, so the children had them while opening their stockings on our bed. Gave us a bit longer in bed! But we did have another breakfast once we were up.

Iknownothing · 21/08/2021 08:20

Oh love the pop tart idea! Not in stockings but we’ve made up breakfast pancakes the night before and just heated them up in the morning. Now mine are teens I’m quite tempted to put some pancake mix in their stockings and they can make their own.
We do stockings in the morning then wait til after Christmas lunch for family presents - most people react with horror at that but actually it spreads the day out quite well and when the dc were little prevented them from being too overwhelmed.

TheFairPrincess · 21/08/2021 08:48

Ooh I just love all these ideas, their stockings will keep them going til boxing day if I'm not careful Grin
