Can anyone recommend some skates or boots for a nearly 6 year old please? I'm thinking the ones with 4 in a square would be better than inlines, is that right? And how do you get round the fact their feet are still growing?

I'm planning on getting knee pads etc too so any recommendations for that are welcome too please.

We aren't ready for skates yet, but we bought these for our neices 6th birthday after being recommended by a friend. www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EY7G216/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_Q46MSGAD1DM3WPSTJDZ4?psc=1&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21. You can get them on Amazon, but skatehut (that's where we bout ours) also sell them in a bundle with safety gear and different colours. They're really stable for beginners and size adjustable so will last through foot growth and seem to be one of the best selling brands for younger skaters. Our Neice is 7 1/2 and still wearing them this summer.

Skatehut have a package of the same boots but different colour, helmet and pads on special for £66. Size small is adjustable for some size 11-1. Ive tried to copy link but it won't work.

I prefer quads to inlines, better for my ankles. Love skating!

Get the ones that expand in size. Had those for my DD.

I wear knee pads, wrist pads and elbow pads, helmet and mouth guard when playing roller derby

I wear the knee, wrist and elbow pads only for pleasure skating.

Thank you, really helpful. I used to love roller skating, DD is fascinated when she sees Bigger Kids skating. Unlike riding a bike, which she isn't fussed about.

Good point about her ankles too - we have been ice skating I'm sure and the weight on her ankles increased the bambi factor.

We got Chad valley quad skates which are expandable- they’ve been pretty good.

I got my 7 year old these for Christmas- easy to extend, cheap, sturdy and cheerful! I dont really like sports direct customer service but it was the only place I could get them.

Also bought my 10 year old the same pair and both still going strong! Dd2 is a size 13 and wears it in size 1/2- dd1 is a size 2 and wears it in size 4 now so it does come up smaller than expected. Really easy to change sizes and put on and off. I got the safety stuff from Amazon, I’ll see if I can find it!

these ones again I got medium for both of them, a sturdy 7 year old and a skinny 10 year old!
