mp3 player - not i-pod that's mac compatible

ds want i-pod for christmas. Only the shuffle is realistically possible price-wise but he really wants the screen, enough to have forgone it for his birthday, so he'd have more money in the pot towards one with screen for Christmas, so fair dos to him, he's waited half a year.

But I don't want to spend that much, so are there any other mp3 players that work with macs? I've been through all at our local 2 electic shops and they both sa, no, only i-pods are mac compatible.

have you looked on ebay? My husband recently sold his sony mp3 plaqyer for £50 and it was in as new condition boxed etc . He only sold as he bought ipod touch thingy. bargains to be had

oh sorry didnt read your post very well ..I think only ipods are compatible with macs but still you cn get old style with screen on ebay for 35.99 so still bargain..

thanks, widgypog, is that 100% right the, def. only an i-pod? I suppose if I know that as a cast-iron fact it makes it easier..

widgypog thanks a lot. I didn't look on e-bay, I'll just buy new, cos at least it'll have a 2 year guarantee that way. I get it on ebay it can conk out in a month then I'm stuffed, with a heartbroken son & I'd have to buy a new one anyway. The batteries can be crap and only last a couple of years, so I'd rather the security of the guarantee. I'm not paying anyway, well, only a part. Thanks
