I LOVE getting pics of other people's kids. I can't believe you would prefer a badly-painted pic of a yellow camel.

I don't send christmas cards to people that I think "don't care." I send A LOT of christmas cards but I like to think that they all care, actually. And lots of them I don't stay in touch with during the year. Lots of them are rather elderly/widowed TBH and don't have email which is the way I stay in touch with most people. I think they appreciate a letter and a photo A GREAT DEAL. And I love getting pics of other people's children and seeing how they are growing!

I think you are all miserable...

Most of the people I know wouldn?t want a photo of my DS, but if you were one of my friends Morningpaper I would send you a photo because I would know you care. As it is, only the grandparents and my sister are that bothered about my DS!!

PatsyCline · 03/12/2007 18:20

Oh Suedonim,, why is signing the card such a big deal? I only ever get to write "from PatsyCline, Mr Patsy Cline and DD1 and DD2 Patsy Cline" anyway or else my hand drops off. It bores me to tears and feels like such a chore. I do lots of other nice, good mannered things throughout the year (honest).

Right, I'm off to cop off with unsuitable boys with CCCC.

.Fine for grandparents/doting aunts only.
Otherwise cringe-worthy

I've got detention. Again.

Ok MP I#m going to try and analyse why I find them naff (will end up sounding like a miserable git).

I find them smug and a bit conceited - the assumption that everyone wants to see photos of your kids gurning at them from the mantlepiece. A lot of them I get are from people I see regularly so I know fine well what their kids look like! Plus no-one else's children are anything like as attractive as one's own .

I do confess that my visceral reaction to them stems from my barren years - bad enough failing miserably to get pregnant every year without the evidence of other people's effortless fertility plopping through the letterbox every Christmas.

I either bin them or put them behind larger cards.

I confess that I am guilty of dressing my baby son up as a little red devil and taking him to a Halloween party which is almost of not more naff.....

Good for you !!

I love getting pics of other people's kids too, mp - although I would rather have an actual photo inside the card, then I can stick it up in the kitchen.

My niece sent a beautiful card of her DS, then aged 5 months, 2 years ago - she is a graphic designer and did a white card, with a tiny image of her and her DH standing in the background, and the photo of the baby in an image of a little car zooming to the front - I had it on the mantelpiece and the bloody thing whooshed into the fire in the draught when someone opened the door

WendyWeber · 03/12/2007 19:26

Beautiful turn of phrase there, mmj

I have bought a pack of these from Mothercare this year, and just popped a photo of my two in

The first year I dressed up my six month old and made cards. here I just sent them to close friends and relatives, everyone else got a normal card

I don't think it is naff whilst your kids are small, but I won't be doing it once they are over about 10

WalkingCinderWinterWonderland · 04/12/2007 11:42

MrsFish I dressed my LO similar for his first xmas. Your poppet looks so cute!!! And the slip in photo cards look good. That way people can take the photo out if they want to! I like that idea!

I?ve put some piccys up on my profile of my LO dressed up for xmas. I had a think, and instead of buying xmas theme dress up, I used dress up he already had! He loves crawling around saying ?baa? but if he ever doesn?t want to dress up or play in front of the camera, I won?t force him to!
