Present ideas for a one year old boy

Anyone come across any good toys for a one year old boy? Our DS seems bored with most of his toys so we're looking for things to keep him busy and stimulated for the next 12 months!

He likes to be busy with his hands/fingers.
He loves drumming but already has three drums!
He isn't interested in stacking things, despite having a couple of different sets of 'stackers'.
He loves helicopters, aeroplanes and cars.

The rellies are asking for a Christmas list and we're running out of ideas!

Thanks!

click clack road track from ELC
giraffe ball blast ?

chelseamorning · 26/11/2007 11:09

Ah, I've seen the click clack thing. It's hard buying toys as you're never sure whether they'll only last a few minutes and then will be chucked across the room...

Not heard of the giraffe ball blast but will Google it.

Cheers, Codslovechild!

When my DS was one, he received a wooden shape sorter, which kept him busy for AGES, which was useful in the early mornings when DH & I would try to catch up on sleep while DS was sat up in bed between us fiddling with the blocks.

We also got him a Brio train track & road system, but he was more interested in hiding the cars and smashing the roads down...it took another year before he got interested in it.

chelseamorning · 26/11/2007 11:19

He has a shape sorter and plays with it for anything up to a minute and then loses interest! He's a bit of a toy butterfly! I think he's like DH was at that age and prefers to play with the boxes. Ha!

I like some of the Brio toys. Might have a look as the train track and road system one.

Cheers, Threestars!

Fill a big box with inflated balloons, wrap it up and tie with a big red ribbon. Your DS will have lots of fun with the balloons and the big box!

Ds 16 months loves his cow wheelybug and wooden toddle truck with bricks the most - he just spends his time bashing into things with them.Loves anything with balls to bash also such as this which was bought for him last christmas.

MuffinMclay · 26/11/2007 13:46

More cars and trains. I don't think you can have too many.

MorocconOil · 26/11/2007 13:50

Wheelybug

Anything Thomas the Tank Engine

Tea-set

Sticklebricks

Wooden Galt Trike

Habitat have got some lovely wooden fire engines, tractors and a bus for £24.99

MuffinMclay · 26/11/2007 13:54

Oooh yes, another vote for sticklebricks. Ds adores his, and empties them out of the box all over the floor first thing each day.

for his first birthday my ds got a tractor with trailer with 5 animals in it. When you press the farmer it sings old macdonald, when you press each of the animals it makes their noise, when you press the steering wheel the horn and lights go and when you press the funnel the tractor moves. This was a huge hit with him. He was able to play with it straight away (unlike lots of toys you have to wait for them to grow into ) and he still regularly plays with it now at 3yo. It has been his most played with toy. My sister bought it for him from john lewis. I think the make was called Mischief and it was about £20.

I think Chad Valley in Woolies do a similar one...

Tigerschick · 26/11/2007 15:53

IMO you can never have too many jigsaws and there are so many to choose from that repeats are unlikely.
Also cars, trucks, tractors etc.
DD has one of these which she loves.

ja9 · 26/11/2007 15:54

here is one like it on ebay

dooley1 · 26/11/2007 16:31

the bubble garage from elc was a winner with ds and he still plays with it at 3.7

EffiePerine · 26/11/2007 16:35

DS has that truck thing and LOVES it. The singing gets a bit irritating after a while (which is why it lives at Granny's)

threestars · 26/11/2007 21:06

Just remembered his favourite pressie from his 1st birthday - a ride-on fire engine. He'd zoom up and down the corridor on it non-stop. It was a bit hair-raising, but he soon learnt to use the steering wheel properly and loved stopping it at just the last minute by my toes. It had three annoying songs on it that he loved too.
It drove me crazy, but he really did adore it!

bodiddly · 26/11/2007 21:13

my ds had a Little People farm and train set for his first christmas ... and he still plays with them now he is nearly 3!

chelseamorning · 27/11/2007 16:39

Oh wow! Thanks everyone. So many fantastic ideas! The rellies asked for a list so they're gonna get a long one!
