because of the bird flu in East Anglia. So if you have one on your Christmas order, you have to delete it and choose something else.

I only ordered turkey because my friend won't let me kill one of her geese. Stingy bitch.

are they letting us do xmas orders? My local one only has till mid Dec slots so far!!!???

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 22/11/2007 20:51

They emailed me about Christmas deliveries weeks ago so I booked it straight away - just filled the trolley with wine & turkey and will fine-tune it nearer the time!

When you select deliveries, under the 'after next 5 days' option it should say 'Christmas deliveries'. I've just looked at mine and there are still slots for the 20/21 Dec. They're charging higher delivery costs for them this year.

I have been checking for 3 weeks now and I do not have an option to book a christmas delivery!

Have emailed ocado to find out why! What will I do if I can't get one! Arghhhh

callmemadam · 22/11/2007 22:31

Ocado have got replacements on the system, including organic and free range from Kellys Turkeys, so I have just ordered a replacement. Probably better not to leave it too late though.

Tortington · 22/11/2007 22:42

oh dear what will i do

dingdongmerrALYonhigh · 22/11/2007 22:42

cece,

It is to do with how often you order - regular shoppers are getting first dibs.

Last year was offered mine on 31st Oct, still haven't been offered it this year - Waitrose is my local shop so now the children are at school/nursery I wander round myself

But most miffed that prob will get shite Christmas slot.

LazyLinePainterJane · 22/11/2007 22:43

I booked my turkey about 3 weeks ago. When did you get the email, Duchess?

cece · 23/11/2007 08:22

That explains it I only order from Ocado at Christmas, so once a year!

BadKitten · 23/11/2007 12:00

/puzzled
ordered mine before bird flu and I've nor had any emails saying I can't have it after all. Hope I won't be let down last minute as would be a bit stuffed then. (sniggers at minor pun)

Email arrived at 2.15pm yesterday. This is what it says...

We're sure you're aware of the recent incidence of bird flu in East Anglia. Unfortunately the farm that rears our organic Waitrose bronze-feathered free range turkey was in the affected area, which means that we will not be able to supply you the exact turkey that you have ordered. The following turkeys are affected:

Waitrose Organic Bronze Feathered Free Range Turkey Serves 8-11
Waitrose Organic Bronze Feathered Free Range Turkey Serves 4-7
Waitrose Organic Bronze Feathered Free Range Turkey Serves 12-15
Waitrose Organic Bronze Crown Small Serves 2-4
Waitrose Organic Bronze Turkey Crown
Waitrose Organic Bronze Crown Medium Serves 5-8

However, we're pleased to tell you we've been able to find an alternative source of organic and free range turkeys, sourced from an award-winning family-run farm, and raised using traditional farming methods. Find out more about the Kelly family farms here*.

This means you'll need to go to the Ocado site, remove your existing turkey and select another one from our range. Just follow these simple instructions:

  1. Log in to your account at Ocado.com
  2. Go to Edit your Christmas order
  3. Remove the turkey listed above from your order
  4. Select another turkey from our range
  5. Check out your Christmas order

Once again, we're sorry that we have had to make this change to your Christmas shopping, but we're confident that you'll find your replacement turkey every bit as delicious and tasty.

Duchess we are having rib of beef this year. Fluke really - we normally have a goose (killed by someone else thankfully although I did have to cut the feet off one a couple of years ago) but our usual supplier isn't doing them this year.
I'm not surprised it has hit organic/free range producers so hard, their birds are out there mixing with wildlife and I guess they are more at risk.
Feel very sorry for them all.
I bet you can get an incarcerated Bernard Matthews miserable turkey all right...

LazyLinePainterJane · 23/11/2007 18:55

Hmmm thanks Duchess. I had a look at my order status ad it says that the turkey is not available. Though I haven't had an email and I assume until I get that e-mail I can't change the order as this was not an option normally.

Are the other turkeys more expensive than normal sue to shortage?
