I have 8 for lunch on Christmas day. DH and myself, and our 6 year olds DDs, the in-laws, my mum and DH's old auntie.

I always seem to do something with prawns, so fancy a change. Thought of soup but it's a bit filling. Not keen on salmon.

What are you all doing for a starter?

We always seem to end up with a prawn starter as well so this year's we're doing an exotic fruit salad; mango, papaya, pineapple, melon etc.

Figured it would be nice and light and easy to prepare.

That sounds lovely. Not sure if the rest of my family would appreciate it though.

Have to say I always do prawns & smoked salmon with a bit of salad and nice bread... but I like to do the same thing/easy things every year at the moment so i don't spend all morning in the kitchen....

we have salmon, so sorry we are no help!!! i also like pate on toast( nice and easy!!)

bossykate · 19/11/2007 13:40

don't do it! i never do a starter for christmas lunch - simply unnecessary. hand round some canapes with the champagne instead!

ChippyJaneMinton · 19/11/2007 13:40

I don't bother with a starter at the table, we have smoked salmon, parma ham, olives, nuts etc to nibble with glass of bubbly. Saves faffing around trying to keep the main course warm and the roast spuds crispy, saves on washing up too

I always suggest nibbles with drinks but my lot always want a starter and it is always prawn cocktail or melon. Drives me mad. May try the nibble suggestion again this year!

Was going to suggest salmon but you are not keen so no use there!
