My DCs both had playmobil. It is expensive, but both mine played with theirs for years so it was a good investment IMO. Of course, no guarantee your DD will play with it as much. One tip, if you do buy playmobil, unless it's changed in the last few years, it all needs putting together. If you think your DD would get frustrated waiting, then you might want to fit some of the bits together ahead of time. If she's old enough to help do that herself, and is the patient type, then that's not so much of an issue.

tissy · 19/11/2007 09:19

They do a tiny Fairy castle here only £4.99

Any good?

Tommy · 19/11/2007 09:22

big playmobil fans in this house. My DSs are 4 and nearly 6 and they love it. DS2 wants the police van because it has a jail in the back

They are also getting the nativity set from DS1's godparents.

Playmobil is great but its' very small so be careful with the hoover and any smaller children

paddingtonbear1 · 19/11/2007 17:34

thanks all.John lewis had the hospital with 20 pounds off, but when I went in today there was no stock left! They will get more but it may not be on special offer. I think dd would play with it as she's played with all her toys so far! I looked at the description online and yes it does have small bits, and needs putting together - they suggest it takes 2 hrs! Make that all afternoon!
tissy thanks for the link, I didn't realise you could get smaller ones - I like that!

try www.lambstoys.co.uk

They have a good range of pm stuff and it's often cheaper. Also mailorderexpress.

LIZS · 19/11/2007 17:42

mailorderexpress had the Grand Mansion reduced to £49.99 at the weekend , worth checking .

tissy · 19/11/2007 17:44

look on OrmIrian's link here they also have a small carry-about dolls house, which is quite sweet

perpetualworrier · 19/11/2007 17:48

I love playmobil. Yes pricey, but such good play value.

My sister had the ambulance when we were kids andmy DC's play with it now.

TK max have a castle (not fairy) for £40

LIZS · 19/11/2007 17:58

Hospital £89.95 The castle in TK maxx isn't great value imho. Rock Castle can be had for not much more.

Toys R Us have the hospital for £80 with a free super set of your choice!!!!! Loads of other offers or they did. Ours arrived last week, have 3 around the same age so will get our moneys worth. My friends 13 year old has just stopped playing with his collection so I'm thinking at 3 and 4 I will get several years out of it.

It's quite strong(ours takes a battering) and the play possibilites are huge. We've had money from other relations to go towards it. They get less presents but I think I get more value for money.

The Playmobil site is good, there are no offers but the prices aren't inflated and postage is free over£50. You'll need to order now though as it comes from Germany. They had a nice little bakers shop and a camper van.

MilaMae · 19/11/2007 18:58

Sorry just looked the hospital is out of stock and I can't see the supersaver offer anymore but the playground set which you can only get at Toys R Us is on offer for £25 bargain!!!

My daughter got given it recently and loves it, actually I adore it too. You could get that(lots of accident possibilities)and the ambulance and the hospital room set(£5 I think) and give her a shoebox to make her own.

I had the room set as a child and got hours of fun out of that and a shoe box(had to improvise with my sisters Fisher Price play family camper as an ambulance though)

paddingtonbear1 · 19/11/2007 21:55

That's not a bad idea MilaMae, thanks! I might pop down to Toys r us, they might have more in the actual store. I like the look of the playground set, and the ambulance.Gosh you could spend mega, if you had the money!
I like the Grande Mansion, that's a good offer for that - it looks huge! Mind you I have no idea how much space the hospital would take!

DS got a playmobil castle for his birthday and he was 4. He and dd1[23m] play with it for hours on end. I love it and can often be found setting up scenes with it..lol It is one of the few toys I can sit and play with the dc for ages with due to the amount of imagination and role play it promotes.

emkana · 19/11/2007 22:01

My dd's have the hospital - it's quite big.
It took dh two whole evenings to assemble it, so be warned!

paddingtonbear1 · 19/11/2007 22:09

dd was also interested in the Fairy castle, I wonder if that is smaller?
two evenings, gosh, we will be there all week!

snice · 19/11/2007 22:11

My DD is 6 -do you think shes too old to start buying Playmobil stuff? I think I might have missed the boat.

paddingtonbear1 · 19/11/2007 22:21

snice - if she likes stuff like that, then not too old at all. I suspect the optimum age is between 5 and 8/9,might be wrong.

snice · 19/11/2007 22:23

Thanks -it just seems that you have to build up a collection to have enough to play with and I can't afford to buy loads for Christmas.

paddingtonbear1 · 19/11/2007 22:32

not sure what your budget is, but there's quite a few good things for under £40. The links on this thread are good if you want to have a browse! The small dolls house looks good value for £24.99, you get quite a lot with it,and the camper van. I like the look of the playground set too which is on offer at toys r us.

snice · 20/11/2007 23:19

If anyone is a member at Costco they have Playmobil in stock for the next week or so at about 2/3 normal price.

Whimsy · 21/11/2007 06:41

The Dolls house is £19.95 in the Entertainer now.

shinners07 · 22/11/2007 00:06

Can't recommend playmobil highly enough- it is played with for hours and hours per week in my house by my 2 DS's (age 4 and 8) and my DD (6). Maybe you could get one big thing - I really fancy the supermarket and am trying to convince my DD she would like it from Santa Claus - and then take a look on ebay for someone selling a big mixed bag of 2nd hand playmobil to fill up your collection- you can pick them up for quite good value. The putting together of the big things is a drag but the good news is once it's done it STAYS done!

Maggieb52 · 22/11/2007 00:11

Playmobil is the best ever childrens toy. My DS is 5 now and has spent the past 3 years playing with his. He now has a huge collection. It is expensive but it lasts and lasts and holds its value on ebay. It is also pretty indistructable. You dont have to buy all the bits at once. My friend has just bought the fairy castle for her lo but bought all the accessories first to make sure he really wanted it!!!

Maggieb52 · 22/11/2007 00:36

Thank you thank you thank you for this thread. I have just bought Rock Castle for DS for Christmas. On special at John Lewis and used a promotional code from Hotukdeals to get another £10off. Normally retails for 59.95 and I just got it for 29.95!!!Thanks so much mners!!!!!
