the brief is white headdress and blue tunic. any ideas for how to execute this simply but impressively?

two pieces of material blue and white

blue piece should be twice the size of your dd, fold material in half and cut a hole for her head then loosey sew up both sides leaving a space for arms, use a blue ribbon for a belt

white material about the size of a tea towel and fix to head with a white ribbon making a head dress

thank you this is exactly what i need. is there a material other than felt which doesn't need to be hemmed

cut the material with pinking shears (the ones with a zig zag edge and then it wont fray. no need to hem. if you don't want to sew the sides use the stuff you stick up trouser hems with. curtain tie back cords also make great sashes.

lucysmum thank you very much for that

Or you could buy one of ebay or from ASDA/Tesco.......... >

MrsBadger · 13/11/2007 15:40

or fleece doesn't need hemming
(cosy too)

please don't buy the Mary outfit from Woolworths - it has gold coloured edging on it and she has a sparkly headdress - it jars on my theological sensibilities

(did they think she was from some wealthy family or something? That's why she had to give birth on a stable? )

You can get fabric glue to do the hems

goingfor3 · 13/11/2007 16:00

Asda sells them, don't think it's over fancy.

(I am waiting for the Disney Princess / Mary crossover - it's only a matter of time )

Blu · 13/11/2007 16:07

aaaaah!

LOL at Disney Princess Mary!

Just make sure she doesn't wear much underneath - they get very very hot and uncomfortable in these outfits if they are on top of normal clothes, and hten fidget and fret all the way through.

i am no stranger to bought costumes, but this time really want to make myself, which is what i prefer time permitting. alas my skills are not up to much needlework!

thanks very much for all these suggestions, i really appreciate them all

blu, i came in late last night as she was just drifting off to sleep, the only thing she said was, "mummy, i'm mary in the christmas play..." aawww, bless!

will be calling out the gps for this!

awww bossykate - that's so sweet.

My DS1 was Joseph in the nativity when he was at nursery - he couldn't really say it though so went around telling everyone that he was "Govis"

bossykate · 14/11/2007 10:08

thanks, tommy!

great suggestions here for the costume-ically-challenged.

more welcome!

thanks
