DD in reception alleges she is Mary, so while I'm signing in now, I may sign out tomorrow when I find she has the wrong end of the stick, but she is doing her best pregnant poses and singing so much her voice is hoarse.
I wept when ds1 (now 13) was a king many moons ago...
I am in fear about what emotional reaction may overcome me this year.
So spill who is what and are there any adverse maternal reactions and snide comments abound?
I am (if dd is right) fully expecting the
" oh they gave it to her because she has SN" reaction...
oh the politics....

D.S is a 'friend'of Mary and Joseph WTF?
We have to provide the costume(AAAAAAARRGGHH!!)
I have the sewing skills of a moose and really do not know where to start with a robe(apparently outfit is like a shepard-robe,gown with rope etc)
I have no money whatsoever to buy,so what am I meant to use? help!!

yaddayule · 20/11/2007 18:47

pillow case (pref plain light coloured) make holes for head and arms, black marker pen for stripes

Tea towel secured by dressing gown cord

No sewing and you can look smug at homemade effort

Blandmum · 20/11/2007 18:49

Ds is a 'Biblical Character'

dd is miffed as year 6 are not doing much and are going to spread joy in the local Hospice isn't of being stars in the school production.

Conversations along the lines of 'But isn't that the real message of Christmas dd, spreading the good news to all mankind, rather than just the parents' have fallen on rather grumpy deaf ears

ChippyMinton · 20/11/2007 18:55

Has anyone else's DC performed a nativity entitled "It's A Party"?

Yesterday DS2 said he was an angel, today he came home and said he was 'popcorn fred' who helps 'superstar' I am beginning to suspect that he has a vivid imagination.

hippipotami · 20/11/2007 18:58

dd is 'narrator 10'. There are 15 narrators. She is practising her 'line' as I type this:

In a dountry far away, three kings spotted a new star. The star was a special sign that meant a new king had been born'

hippipotami · 20/11/2007 18:59

That would be country!!

ash6605 · 20/11/2007 19:00

Lol YADDAYULE,that would be great but I forgot to say he's 9 and stands at 4" 8!! thats the pillowcase out!!

Madoldcatlady · 20/11/2007 19:09

Over the years we've had,
a tea cup
a croquet stick
Mary
a sheep
a reindeer groom
an angel
and this year.....a pink cloud!

Madoldcatlady · 20/11/2007 19:09

Ds1 is a sort of Monty Pythonesque newsreader who interjects with "funny" lines throughout the show. I'm already terrified about the line learning.

Dd is 7th Shepherd. I think, sadly, she is not Mary material, although I am tempted, come next October, to send her repeatedly into school wearing a blue headscarf, just to see if the teachers get the hint.

Ds2 will be a small and grumpy star for the 3 seconds that they will be able to keep him on the stage.

My DD is Mary in her first school nativity!!! .... my big problem is the show is on 4th and 5th Dec and my due date is 5/12 so there is every chance I will miss it aarghhhhhhhhhh

Hulababy · 20/11/2007 21:51

DD's school does a whole school nativity. Her class are all sheep. Have had to provide a sheep costume for her.

I was Mary when I was little. I was so disappointed. Mary only had one line I can remember it still "Do we travel alone Joseph?"

Dottydot · 20/11/2007 21:54

Ds is very proud that his line in the Christmas play is:

"everyone laughed when they saw the virgin Mary had her skirt tucked in the back of her knickers"

Now call me old fashioned, but does that seem slightly inappropriate - this is year 1 we're talking about...

Nemo2007 · 20/11/2007 21:56

Ds is a shepard..first time as it is school nursery and everyday he has come home singing songs. I asked him if he needs a costume and he said no he just has to look after the sheep...will double check with teacher at parents meeting.

Clary · 21/11/2007 00:39

Oh wow piff she has to sing on her own

DS2's Mary is the littlest girl and not great at concentrating. Luckily she has no lines and certainly no solo songs.

The main role is the hoity toity angel (sound familiar ormirian?) with loads of words. DS2 is the Angel Gabriel with 2 speeches (wowww!).

Mind you last yr DD was in Mary's Knitting and yes, that was a big role for Mary.

ooh tortoishell DD was the whoopsadaisy angel in reception. She had absolutley masses of lines, I didn't realise how much until I saw her (this was after watching DS1 march on stage, march round, march hastily off again the previous year....

Tellusmater lol at costume collection. We have a generic robe for any purpose, plus an angel and a sheep. Have already offerd the sheep to another mum. Also have offerd out my roman soldier costume to a mum at work and another pal borrowed my pirtae stuff recently. There must be a business opp here

ChippyMinton · 21/11/2007 20:40

every day things become a little clearer - DS2 is an angel called Foghorn Fred, and he has several lines which include 'come on everyone let's boogie' whereupon he throws a shape and gives a thumbs up. This i have to see

gscrym · 23/11/2007 19:15

DS is pleased to be Joseph. I should be ashamed I didn't believe him at first and had to check with his teacher.

Hennipenniinapeartree · 23/11/2007 20:02

DD2 is an alien
DD3 is 11th narrater- exactly right for an opinionated (sp) vocal 6 yr old!

pooka · 23/11/2007 20:04

dd is an "important" star. In charge of the other little stars and apparently the angels have to dance round her while she twinkles. Can't wait to see.

pooka · 23/11/2007 20:09

I remember being Mary at aged about 9 and having to sing a solo - the magnificat I think. Was terrible - I can't hold a tune!

MegaLegs · 23/11/2007 20:16

DS2 (6) and his best mate both want to be Joseph so they are going to audition on Monday!! He has no front teeth at the moment and has a great lisp going on, hope he gets it. There are 7 little girls up for Mary. Not quite sure what the audition involves so am unable to prepare him in any way [pushy mum emoticon] LOL.

Not sure what roles my other two at school have got yet.

Anchovy · 26/11/2007 21:58

Ooh, can I join in.

DS (Year 1) is both a Native American and Joseph. As the Narrative American he has a line ("you are welcome here - my brothers and sisters will give you food and drink"). As Joseph, he has no lines, but, as I choose to believe, is a pivotal role as a strong, silent but crucial part of the proceedings. The bossiest girl in the class by a country mile is Mary, so there is no danger of him forgetting what needs to be done. DH says it is good for him to start building his cv, and being Joseph at 6 is a great start.

DD (Nursery) is a star, but effectively a de facto understudy in waiting. We only need a swift push trip from the main character and DD will nip from the wings in a "Chorus Line" style moment and take over the proceedings....
