DD in reception alleges she is Mary, so while I'm signing in now, I may sign out tomorrow when I find she has the wrong end of the stick, but she is doing her best pregnant poses and singing so much her voice is hoarse.
I wept when ds1 (now 13) was a king many moons ago...
I am in fear about what emotional reaction may overcome me this year.
So spill who is what and are there any adverse maternal reactions and snide comments abound?
I am (if dd is right) fully expecting the
" oh they gave it to her because she has SN" reaction...
oh the politics....

ds1 was always a conscientious objector....
now he is 13 I have had to sit on him and threaten him with extreme GBH if he ruins it for dd.. ditto Santa, ditto tooth fairy...

the teacher told me today why dd got the part
she was the only one who could remember the song Mary has to sing on her own...
I'm not quite sure how I will hold myself together when it happens...
Lots of booze, valium perhaps?

Well I'm sorry but since my DS~2 actually has the correct name he simply has to be Joseph. So there.... I'm still waiting for the school to confirm this but I'm sure they will.... in time.

And because he's so adorable.

Oh.. and he's very good with donkeys.

bossykate · 14/11/2007 10:58

dd is mary have told dh it is just as much of a big deal as it will be in future if she gets in to oxford. or something.

OrmIrian · 14/11/2007 10:59

I think i deserve a chance to be mother of a leading man/lady. So far Ds#1 has been one of Joseph's brothers, one of 5 Roman soldiers, one of heads of the 10-headed man in Rama and Sita (I think), and 'a member of the chorus' on many occasions. DD was a shepherd and 'a member of the chorus' several times.

I think I may have to make a scene this year if nothing more substantial is forthcoming...

claricebeansmum · 14/11/2007 11:10

In case I can help...from previous nativity plays I have a wolf costume and a zebra costume if anyone needs them...! Reminds me of the scene in some film where the kid comes home and says that she is the lobster in the nativity play...

My DS was Mary in his school nativity play (all boys school) and I cried.

Raahh · 14/11/2007 19:09

ds was both joseph and one of the kings last YEAR (different days). he's a versatile chap. This year, different school ,and he is again a king (i'm a present bearer, mummy- that's a bear that brings presents), and also the narrator.
He has rehearsed the ENTIRE thing several times. i especially like the bit where thay 'wash up ' the new born king
am guessing it's WORSHIP

Oh and Mary and joseph are going to the airport, on the donkey....

Raahh · 14/11/2007 19:10

oops- caps lock agogo...

BoysAreLikeReindeer · 14/11/2007 19:14

I'll have you know that according to DS2 one of the main characters in the Nativity is a fellow called Joe Sniff

Hee hee

Piffle · 14/11/2007 21:50

DD is adamant there is no Joseph or any kings, just her and her baby...
Very new adaptation or just a stage hogger

PMSL at some of these tales

piffle - just Mary and a baby? A sort of nativity talking heads thing then. Or perhaps 'Waiting for God'

admylin · 15/11/2007 09:58

I wish they did nativity plays here in Germany. We never had them in Kindergargen or in primary school. It's all part of childhood experience that mine are missing out on (like Guy Fawkes - they never saw a bonfire!)

Raahh · 16/11/2007 18:05

pmsl at Joe Sniff!!

stillaslowreader · 16/11/2007 18:49

Dd is a camel AGAIN. My dcs are always villages or servants or camel. How much to you have to pay the PTA to get Mary or at least a front row sheep?

Narrator!! ds2 is narrator!! only the 'sensible' children who are good readers get to be narrator

(I must explain, ds1 is a 'nonjoiner of group activities and has always been shoved in back row, near teacher. And ds 2 has always been famed (in the past) for his vile temper)

So I have had years of turning up to these things, knowing it would end in tears...

fullmoonfiend · 16/11/2007 19:09

I have just become a parent governor. Do you think this is an unexpected perk???

Botbot · 16/11/2007 19:19

Still have ongoing issues because I was never an angel (was not blonde or pretty enough). Was usually a sheep.

Mind you, I had the last laugh one year: at school, I was a sheep. At the ballet class christmas gala, I was the entirely made-up character 'Prince Charming's sister, the Sapphire Princess'.

pukkapatch · 16/11/2007 19:20

ds2 is going to be joseph.
i am jumping oup and down in excitement, but on the inside only. as if i shout out loud too much, everyone might come donw on me and say, but we are muslims!

Piffle · 19/11/2007 12:24

Mary is still in ehr sick bed in this house, ravaged by a chest cold and throat infection...
hope she has an understudy

Dd is a 'neat and tidy angel'.

OrmIrian · 19/11/2007 12:29

OOh tortoiseshell - are your school doing 'the Hoity Toity angel' then? DS#1's class did that. The angel (2 in this case) is supposed to be so beautiful and very vain. So both girls were standing there in their beautiful costumes with fluffy wings speaking their lines perfectly - somewhat spoiled by the fact that they kept scratching their heads the entire play. As was the audience by the end

tortoiseSHELL · 19/11/2007 12:30

I think it's 'Whoops-a-daisy angel', from what dd has said.

Debbiethemum · 20/11/2007 10:51

DS told me last night that he is a robot.

Yaddayule · 20/11/2007 10:59

Last year I got all excited at ds was a King (the previous year he'd been a Shepherd and his teatowel fell off his head resulting in him exiting stage left in a huff) On arrival at the nativity there were about 20 Kings and 3 shepherds

I never got an explanation!
