Would you get a nearly 2 year old boy a doll and pram?

I think DS would love it, but DH said No Way. I wasn't going to get an all singing all dancing all weeing weirdy doll, just a normal one and a pram for him to push it around in and maybe a play bottle to give it because that's what children seem to like, girls and boys... but DH thinks I am bonkers. Am I? He was bad enough when he saw a play kitchen on the list, but I just about managed to convince him that it wasn't just for girls.

if he likes it, then he likes it! that toy is not going to make him be a girl or anything...he will just have fun with it!

belgo · 12/11/2007 12:34

I would give it. You're not bonkers! You could compromise and give a wheelbarrow instead of a pram - it can be used as a pram!

scattyspice · 12/11/2007 12:35

I think he would love it. My DH is like yours but luckily my DS has a lil sister so he plays with her toys, albe it in a different way. He likes cooking things and sweeping up and he loves the buggy (but goes at great speed!).
Get a buggy and a teddy with clothes by way of comprimise. Or a shopping trolly.

TellusMater · 12/11/2007 12:35

I would.

I didn't, but that was only because DS was only interested in animals.

But I would.

And I quite often see little boys out and about with them.

phdlifeneedsanewlife · 12/11/2007 12:35

yes. there was a thread about this a couple of days ago. tell your dh it might help your ds grow up to be a loving, caring father - surely he couldn't object to that?

LadyOfWaffle · 12/11/2007 12:36

a baby in a wheel barrow? lol! I like the idea of a wheelbarrow though to take to the allotement, thanks!

Well I like to think I would but I never did! I did get him a kitchen - still plays with it now at 6! And I also got him a cleaning trolley which was the best money spent ever!

OracleInaCoracle · 12/11/2007 12:40

i got this for my nephew, and this one for ds. nothing wrong with it at all

bluenosesaint · 12/11/2007 12:55

Definitely yes!

I dont have any boys but my nephew (aged 7) LOVED playing with his sisters dolls and prams and still loves to dress up as one of the princesses when he came to my house (i think he just wants to join in and therefore will wear whatever is available).

I had to draw the line at him wanting to go to the park in his 'snow-white' dress though

Anna8888 · 12/11/2007 13:03

Yes, definitely. I got my nephew a pram (a manly navy blue check mini McLaren ) for his second birthday, and my sister got both my nephews dolls when she had babies.

You can get little boy dolls if you look hard.

Kewcumber · 12/11/2007 13:05

my 2 yr old DS loves his pram and its unashamedly pink. Tell your DH to get a grip they're too young to know or care they want to have fun. He doesn;t have any dolls just puts his teddies in it.

dosydot · 12/11/2007 13:10

Exactly what my DS 20 months is gettting for Xmas.
Have bought a blue one from elc,, mainly so dc know whos is whos, what is with these men , I really get miffed with all this gender stereotying.
Ds is also getting a Dora backpack in purple cos thats the colour it is!
I never get wound up by these things and don't know many women who do - why are the men sooo insecure?

OracleInaCoracle · 12/11/2007 13:11

forgot to add, ds saw his doll on top of my wardrobe and spent an hour trying to reach it

blueshoes · 12/11/2007 13:12

My dh was not allowed to have a baby pram. He has to play with his sisters'/neighbours' in secret. He is now a loving and caring father.

LadyWaffle, the fact that you ds wants to play with such toys shows his gentle nurturing side. Go for it!

OrmIrian · 12/11/2007 13:13

Yes. We did for DS#1. Well the doll anyway - he adapted a brick trolley to be the pram .

ScoobyDoo · 12/11/2007 13:14

I would say yes definatly fine, there is a boy baby in ELC here baby Max i have actually brought the girl one for my dd, they suck the bottle it comes with & you get the free wooden cradle when buying the doll.

Iklboo · 12/11/2007 13:18

Every time DS sees baby annabell on tv he says "want that".
They do boy dolls - actually, isn;t action man a doll when all said & done. Action figure me arse - it's a doll!

nimnom · 12/11/2007 13:20

Yes.

MorocconOil · 12/11/2007 13:21

Don't be put off because he's a boy. He might not be interested though, just depends on his interests/personality.

DS1 wasn't interested in his at all, but my DS2 loved playing with it. When DD got a baby Annabel for her 2nd birthday DS2 then aged 5 played with it endlessly even having the doll in his bed at night.

When he was 2 DS2 used to pretend he was taking his'baby' to the park to feed the ducks, which is what DH did with them at that age. Basically they use those 'pretend' toys to model what the adults in their lives do.

What does your DH feel about pushing pushchairs/prams LadyofWaffle?

ArmadilloDaMan · 12/11/2007 13:21

YEs.

I would have for ds if dolls hadn't freaked the hell out of him.

allgonebellyup · 12/11/2007 13:22

Why on earth not???

seeker · 12/11/2007 13:24

My ds had a little doll he loved. He is called Roger, and now has pride of place on his "special things" shelf.

If it really freaks your dp out, why not compromise with a bear or a rabbit with clothes, or maybe a little clown?

Pannacotta · 12/11/2007 13:31

WHy not? Think its a lovely idea, would ignore your DH...
DS1 has a blue dolls buggy from ELC and loves it, charges all round the house with it. He puts all kinds of odd things in it, toys, random bits of flotsam as well as his teddies.

bobsyouruncle · 12/11/2007 13:38

My ds is 3 and loves playing with his sister's dolls and buggy. It really bugs me when male visitors make negative comments about it. The other day my tesco delivery man said to him "what are you playing with dolls for, you need some cars to play with" grrrrr.

GrapefruitMoon · 12/11/2007 13:41

Does your dh never push the buggy then or does he think that is a woman's job???
