Would you get a nearly 2 year old boy a doll and pram?

I think DS would love it, but DH said No Way. I wasn't going to get an all singing all dancing all weeing weirdy doll, just a normal one and a pram for him to push it around in and maybe a play bottle to give it because that's what children seem to like, girls and boys... but DH thinks I am bonkers. Am I? He was bad enough when he saw a play kitchen on the list, but I just about managed to convince him that it wasn't just for girls.

I've put a buggy on my son's (18months) christmas list. All he does at toddler groups is play with the 'babies' and the buggies. I have asked for a blue one but only really because I don't really like pink. If he was a girl I'd ask for a blue one too. He's got one of those learn to dress dolls (a boy one. Spike from ELC) with buttons and zips and stuff so he can put that in it.

why not if he likes playing with them. I have an 8 year old dd who loves top gear (we end up watching repeats on Dave) and a 2.5 dd who loves playing with cars and trucks (santa is bringing her a garage with cars and buses)

Yes, ds1 had a buggy at 18 months and he loved it but wasn't that keen on the dolls

ds2 had a baby doll and feeding set for his 2nd Christmas , a dolls house for his 3rd Birthday and a hairdressers set last year. - this year he wants star wars lego!!

DS (21 months) has a doll (not bought for him but he loves her!), and also a little ELC £6 buggy as he kept trying to walk out of the shop with it.

Am expecting twins in a couple of months and so want to get him the toy tandem buggy I have seen as it looks like a mini version of the one we have and he would love it, but at £40 I think there are better things to buy him!

He doesn't play with the doll and the buggy together. He prefers to push a box of shreddies around in the buggy .

Oh, and someone said to me the other day that little boys playing with dolls etc are just being "daddies", and doing what daddy does, which is not exactly strange is it?

KittyletteItBe · 19/11/2007 15:37

i would, this is not girly and halfprice in argos

TheMadHouse · 19/11/2007 15:44

My DS1 has one - he stole his baby from Asda ages ago (pink and soft shoulf have been 1.99 i think - he just had it in the trolley) and we bought a 4.99 pink buggy from woolworths. He refused the blue one from ELC.

He loves it, he watched his daddy push DS2 in the buggy and he copies him - no harm. It is really natural.

But saying that he also has pink toenails again (as I was doing mine and he wanted his done). we believe in innocence at the mo and it is so cute

VictorianSqualor · 19/11/2007 15:49

ha, madhouse, mine has back fingernails

Well, it's a tricky one. I can understand where your dh is coming from LOW, and I find myself in the camp (pardon the pun) where I'm quite relieved that ds hasn't ever wanted a pram and dolly. I don't know why, particularly. I guess I'm just not very enlightened.

Mind you, I was never interested in dollies as a child, either. Or babies, come to that!!

Canadiandream · 21/11/2007 14:26

Yes! Ds is 18mo and he has a baby doll and a pushchair! He also has a kitchen!

Leoladyofleisure · 21/11/2007 14:42

DS1 is very, very much a boyish boy, however he also has a doll and a buggy (we got for him when I was pg). he still plays with it and likes it a lot, I think its good for him and important - he sees dh changing babies nappies and pushing the buggy so why wouldn't he want to as well?. I would never feel embarrassed or concerned (although the buggy is blue and we did buy blue boy clothes to replace the pink ones the doll came with).

He also loves playing with kitchen as well.

CindersNeedsHelp · 21/11/2007 20:47

LadyOfWaffle, I totally agree with Egg. Men push buggies and cuddle their children. Boys who want to play with dolls or teddies and buggies or prams are simply copying Daddy! My DH does, however, draw the line at pink for our 19 month old DS, so he is getting a blue stroller from ELC. DS already has two dolls, which he calls his babies.

WestCountryLass · 21/11/2007 20:49

Yes I would! You can get a basdic buggy from ELC for a fiver and a first doll would not cost much more than that. Playing with baby dolls is not gender specific, it is jsut role play (as you know).
