Having done the turkey thing years ago, we no longer bother and indulge ourselves with something else really special....beef wellington (with a proper homemade mushroom pate..hmmm...)

..what would you really like? am looking for more inspiration....

I realy don't know what we are having this year, as we are going to stay with my sister who is vegetarian, so it will be something veggie. Could even be a vegetarian nut Wellington!

If I was doing it here, we would be having a good qulity roast chicken (which I prefer to turkey) with al the trimmings.

Turkey and all the trimmings - possibly even a roast beef!

yummybunnymummy · 09/11/2007 13:59

for the last two Christmases before last we had a gorgeous roast chicken stuffed with lemon, butter, garlic and parma ham (under the skin) which was beautiful, made delicious roasties as well..
...sometimes the easy things are hard to beat..

sorry nut roast..

We are renting a house in Devon to be near dear friends this Christmas no tussle between families >
Fifteen of us will be mucking in ,we all love to cook & there will be all sorts for the meat eaters & veggies amongst us.
I am actually looking forward to Christmas this year

JARM · 09/11/2007 14:01

Beef here this year, we are doing Christmas for the first time ever but as it will be 3 adults and 2 toddlers and a newborn - no point in a turkey!

yummybunnymummy · 09/11/2007 14:03

Lullloo - sounds like wonderful, happy, relaxed cooking chaos - very like when we all descend on my mum for new year (big family etc ~16 of us..)

hmmmmm & ds is the only child....so he will have lots of males to play trains with & I will have lots of cooking/talking time

Lazarou · 09/11/2007 14:14

I've just got the christmas food list from m&s and will be ordering everything from there. Will also be buying a bottle of champagne, some cassis and having kir royales.
I just can't wait for christmas this year.

yummybunnymummy · 09/11/2007 14:21

I just adore christmas and am enjoying putting my 2 week menu for christmas and new year together at the moment. My dh is at home for ~12 days over the hols, so I get the chance to really cook (while he plays with our 2 ds - am sure if some of the toys he has eye on are really for the boys...) and the entire holiday revolves around the family eating and playing together - its just fantastic...

i dont cook it

LunarScream · 09/11/2007 14:30

Nothing this year - we're going away skiing instead. But will get a goose for a family dinner after Christmas.

jesuswhatnext · 09/11/2007 14:43

i'm doing a bit of a retro xmas this year -
beef fondue! lovely roasted new pots with grain mustard, selection of salads, dips etc, will probs do a 'posh' prawn cocktail to start. i reckon most of it can be prepared xmas eve, leaving me free to drink champagne with everyone else!

Lazarou · 09/11/2007 14:49

jesuswhatnext, will you also be listening to a bit of demis roussos?

jesuswhatnext · 09/11/2007 15:09

lazarou - if only! if dd gets to ipod thing before me it will be that very xmassy band called metallica!

Neverenough · 09/11/2007 15:12

I'll be doing the full monty as usual! But if I was in Australia, I'd do a lavish seafood buffet with whole sides of salmon, crayfish, lots of king prawns, some lovely barramundi and loads of champagne......

normabutty · 09/11/2007 15:17

Roast turkey, roast potatoes & parsnips, mashed potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot & swede mashed, brussel sprouts, maybe some leek, peas, those little sausages wrapped in bacon, stuffing, loads of gravy, cranberry sauce... might have forgotten something.

For desert, choice of xmas pud, ice cream or a cake type thing (haven't decided what yet!)

pointydog · 09/11/2007 15:20

If it was just us, I'd make chicken

But will be having Christmas dinner at dh's aunty's so it will be turkey and a load of overcooked trimmings

pointydog · 09/11/2007 15:20

Not complaining. I like pretty much any meal that's made for me

ConnorTraceptive · 09/11/2007 15:36

Going to do goose this year. Turkey doesn't really do anything for me and things like beef we have thorugh out the year so wouldn't feel different enough for xmas if that makes sense.

Frizbe · 09/11/2007 15:47

nothing! its my year off

jenkel · 11/11/2007 13:10

Whats goose like, thinking of doing it but never had goose before, how easy is it too cook. We normally have Turkey but just fancy something different, also what goes with goose?

PestoMonster · 11/11/2007 13:23

Goose is lovely! However, Mr Pesto is traditionalist and so we have a Kelly Bronze turkey every year. Usually have a fishy based starter like gravalax and Harveys brewery Christmas pud afterwards with a good dessert wine. Of course port & stilton aswell for those who want it.

NKF · 11/11/2007 13:26

The usual traditional stuff. I broached the possibility of something else but was greeted with horrified looks.

pointydog · 11/11/2007 16:47

you get very little meat on a goose so watch out
