Just a quick point- is it only femails that send the cards out??

yummybunnymummy · 09/11/2007 14:05

it would be completely improper of us to make such a general sweeping generalization such as that doubletop

...but I think there may be a shred of truth in what you say! [GRIN]

yummybunnymummy · 09/11/2007 14:06

er......

ShowOfHands · 09/11/2007 14:10

I make a few cards each year for very close family. I buy a goat for Oxfam with the money I would have spent otherwise, email to tell everybody that I've done this and try and see as many people as possible in person.

I have done all of my Christmas shopping though. Finished a few weeks ago. I usually do it early-ish but this year my SMP will run out around Christmas and money will be very tight.

fullmoonfiend · 09/11/2007 16:26

I am going to make some this weekend. Close friends and family get homemade, others get traidcraft or similar.

inthepink · 09/11/2007 16:37

ours were written out in August due to the fact that last year we didn't send any and seeing as we live abroad we do like to send them, especially to elderly relatives who aren't online, oh and doubletop dh writes our cards out cos I usually do everything else and his handwriting is sooo much better than mine (that is my excuse and I'm sticking to it) but we don't put in a letter about our year, we would bore people to tears as we don't do anything exciting

Fireflytoo · 09/11/2007 16:45

I don't....lol....I intend to. I buy them, start writing, even sometimes put addresses on them....and never post them...How awful is that?

PatsyCline · 09/11/2007 16:48

I don't. I really hate writing cards out. Oh, the monotony!

I take a fab photo of my DDs (which I enjoy), Photoshop it (which I enjoy) and have the printed as postcards with a greeting on the back (which takes very little effort). Everyone seems to be so thrilled with the cards every year that I'd be frightened to stop now!

And yes, I know I am a bad person.

noddyholder · 09/11/2007 16:49

I bought mine today but won't write them til December

ladygrinningTooSoonForXmasName · 09/11/2007 22:17

Halfway through November, so any day now (but only the abroad ones will be sent immediately). Cards were ordered in October from here with fetching photo of DS on front and our names inside. I print address labels from a speadsheet so all I have to do is sign them. The photo of DS means I don't have to write a message in anything like as many of them as I would otherwise have to - a picture is worth a 1000 words etc, etc

chocchipcookie · 10/11/2007 11:51

Dear Lady. You are my long lost twin. Last night I baked and froze my Christmas pastry cases.

numptysmummy · 10/11/2007 11:54

I write mine in the middle of november. And then i either lose them or forget to post them Am comsidering cutting out the middle man and not buying any in the first place.

gigglewitch · 11/11/2007 00:09

That would drive me nuts - getting loads in and not sending any. Like when I dont buy pressies for people, and then they turn up with a great gift for me, DH and DD

card makers - where do you get your ideas from?

PanicPants · 11/11/2007 16:34

Have written 75% of mine (actually I've written all my side of the family and joint friends - just waiting on dp to do his family).

Can't tell you how good that feels!

Clary · 12/11/2007 00:30

Oh we make all of ours. But very quickly in production line manner with the kids. Makes me feel better for working 30hrs/week - at least I am doinf Christmas craft with them.

We have made/coloured in about 60+ so far. Need at least 100 (sigh).

I don't start writing them yet, tho you've all got me thinking.

My top tip is to write five a night (no more,no less) from when you start (usu end Nov for me).

Start with the "notey" ones to pals you don't see all year then they'll be done.

I promise you it takes 15 mins a night but you feel so much better about it.

Top tip #2: what cod said!
