Does no one sell advent candles anymore?

Oh these family traditions....

We have always had an advent candle.

One year I saw them in the sale in January for about 25p each, and bought 3. We used the last one last year.

I can't find anyone selling them on the high street. Don't want to pay a lot.

I know there are some for sale on ebay, but they are either large, or with their own holders. We have a Christmassy "wee-willie-winky" style holder, just want a standard dinner candle sized candle, for less than about £2.

Do I ask too much?

You can get them in Christian book shops

slayerette · 02/11/2007 12:19

No - we get one every year. I've found them in Laura Ashley in the past but we have a local shop which sells New England-style folksy household stuff and every Xmas they sell only Christmas stuff - including advent candles.

i got a lovely one from a garden centre near us last year..called strikes, but palces like peter barrats et al will do them nearer christmas

Just googled it and the Candle Company do a couple - a bit more than you want to pay at £4 -£5 but pretty.

clumsymum · 02/11/2007 12:23

carrot, I think that's lovely, and in years to come you'll look back on that with great joy.

Do you mean the coloured ones to go in an Advent wreath or the ones that have the days till Christmas on and you burn a little every day?

I got one of the second type in Wilkinsons last year, probably cost no more than a pound....

stripeymama · 02/11/2007 14:01

They have nice ones in Oxfam

clumsymum · 02/11/2007 14:03

Grapefruit,

Yes the second sort, you burn a bit every day until Christmas.

OK if the Christian bookshop can't help, I'll try Wilkinsons

ChasingSquirrels · 02/11/2007 14:11

Wilkinsons had them for 29p last year, I thought at the time about getting more than one but decided they would have them every year. They didn't have any in our local one this morning - but it is only 2 Nov so maybe in a couple of weeks.

annh · 02/11/2007 23:41

I buy one in Oxfam every year, usually come in both white and red.

wangle99 · 03/11/2007 20:59

We get ours from the Cathedral shop - always a good one from there. Got one from Studio cards last year, absolute rubbish didn't burn properly!
