... but it is OK as they take them down on quite early, Boxing Day.

Does anybody else put them up before December?

She said it was nice and cosy - it isn't even Halloween yet!!

Normally about the 13th here, as Dd2's b'day is on the 12th, so I like to do it after that.

RoyKinnear · 28/10/2007 17:30

HugeMistake put hers up in about May once i recall

StrawberryMartini · 28/10/2007 17:34

I am feeling all christmassy tho!

Blandmum · 28/10/2007 17:38

Oh no Uber crapola!

Horrible.

they get on my nerves, and we put them up a few days before Christmas

motherinferior · 28/10/2007 17:41

Good god, talk about inviting the horror of the Festive Season in over your threshold, like a vampire or something.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 28/10/2007 17:42

I put them up 12 days before, take them down 2nd January as by then I've usually had a bellyfull.

Who ARE these tacky people who have them up for months? I know of a house who has tinsel and lights (not switched on obviously) wrapped around the trees in their front garden all year round. Whyyyy? It's not special then when christmas actually arrives! mad.

OozingSlashesFromTigerFeet · 28/10/2007 17:44

Haven't seen any yet, but I am fully expecting to start seeing the outside lights shitey shite displays as soon as Fireworks Night is done and dusted

janeiteofthelivingdead · 28/10/2007 17:47

Ugh! Imagine the dust for one thing. Surely they should be special precisely because they should be up for such a short time? We usually put the tree (no other decorations) up around the 18th and take it down on about the 30th. I love it (and love decorating it) but wouldn't want it up for any longer. Agree with James; it's tacky!

Niecie · 28/10/2007 17:54

When I was a child we used to spend the first day of the school hols. putting them up. I have tried to do the same but it went a bit wrong last year.

But you are right the dust and disruption, not being able to hoover half your room, having the furniture in the wrong place. No no no!!

How can it all meaning anything if they are up this long - you must become desensitised by them.

Tacky tacky tacky but I suppose it takes all sorts.

We put ours up 1st dec as that tends to be around when Advent starts. Where I used to work most of them had their decorations up by 2nd week in nov

RoyKinnear · 28/10/2007 19:03

last sat before christmas for me although a party means some may go up a bit early this year

Budabeastie · 29/10/2007 12:08

Never before December. Prefer around 2 weeks or so before Xmas.

lilospell · 29/10/2007 12:14

WTF???? Ours go up mid-December after DH's birthday

bumperlicious · 29/10/2007 12:16

Last year we had a Christmas in July party so put them up then - but we took them down after the party!

wuzzlefraggle · 29/10/2007 12:44

Hah! I can beat this....my sil's next door neighbor put hers up on SEPTEMBER 26th!!!!

gasp doesnt even come close

lizziemun · 29/10/2007 13:13

God, it must realy spoil christmas for the children.

I think it part of the magic of christmas, in my house decoraction go up on the first weekend in December and come down before 12th night.

wangle99 · 29/10/2007 14:00

We put ours up so they are up for the 1st of December. I think that meant the 25th November the other year but we don't switch the lights on until the 1st December. We take them down pretty soon after Boxing Day though.

wangle99 · 29/10/2007 14:01

Just remembered our local Argos has it's tree up!
