I bought Santa's Rooftop Scramble after seeing it recommended on here and got it out a week before Christmas and my kids aged 5, 7 and 9 loved it and we have played it loads. I may put it away to get out again next christmas, but wondered what other boardgames have been a hit this year and for what ages?

It’s Bananas! and Frozen Unicorns were hits with the whole family (youngest is 6). GoTrovo Treasure Hunt game was also popular with the DC.

Monopoly voice banking has gone down well here.

It is much quicker and less bits as it is all automated.

Similo fables card game - adored by my nine year old and was a last minute stocking gift.

Plays very easily, 12 cards laid out, one of the 12 cards is clue givers card but kept secret.

Clue giver is now given 5 cards for their hand, for the 5 rounds of the game and has to lay them one at a time, saying if the card is similar or different to their original card.

So if the wicked stepmother was laid we might assume his card is an evil person too, so we would eliminate a good character card, however, if Snow White is one of the 12 cards on the table maybe he’s telling us his card is from the same film so you might want to hold on to that card till you get more clues.
The number you have to eliminate increases with each round until you’re left with two cards to choose from in final round.
Glue giver must not speak, they just lay the 5 cards down, but everyone else must discuss what they think the clue means.
It’s a cooperative game so you all win or lose together. Round takes about 15 minutes.

They also do a history and myths version of the game.
Fab little game, highly recommend.

Family trivial pursuit was a hit too.

Throw Throw Buritto for my 10 and 12 year olds!! Also for DH and I when we were drunk

BettyOBarley · 31/12/2020 09:33

Mine are 4 and 7.
Junior UNO, Windy Knickers and Kerplunk have gone down well here. 4yr old DS thinks the aim.of Kerplunk is to get as many marbles as possible but it keeps him happy when he loses Grin

Don't wake dad has been a hit with 10 and 6(nearly 7) year old
10 year old Loved articulate but 6 year old is a bit hit and miss with it
Bugs in the kitchen enjoyed by everyone!

Mustbethewine · 31/12/2020 10:01

Ds2(8) really liked Crocodile dentists and both DC (8&9) and myself have had hours of fun with frustration and jenga.

Littleelffriend · 31/12/2020 10:07

@Mustbethewine that’s interesting I thought crocodile dentist was awful only entertained my 4 year old for 5 minutes

Funny Bunny has been a total hit in our house this Christmas with DC 4 and 7. Bought it after seeing it recommended here on mumsnet

RAINSh0wers · 31/12/2020 10:40

Qwirkle is a hit here with DD6 (and me & DH!). We have junior articulate which she likes but we have to give her a bit more time as it takes her a while to get her thoughts together!

hels71 · 31/12/2020 11:09

We love exploding kittens

SuperPixie247 · 31/12/2020 11:23

@BettyOBarley - great name! My 4 yr old also thinks he needs the most marbles but, like you, I am just glad he doesn't realise he has lost and kicks off HmmGrin

Frazzlefrazle · 31/12/2020 11:28

Labyrinth is a hit here. Ages 9,8 and 6.

I find it so frustrating so maybe not great for kids with short tempers!

30not13 · 31/12/2020 11:29

5 second rule. It entertained a group from 7 to 67 with some small adjustments for littlest of increasing the time and picking suitable cards

CountessFrog · 31/12/2020 11:29

BillyAndTheSillies · 31/12/2020 11:32

Biggest hits with 4yo DS has been Dobble, Don't Wake Dad, Frustration and Snakes and Ladders.

Mid teens.

Cludeo is always a fav.

SecretBabychamDrinker · 31/12/2020 11:53

Exploding Kittens has been a hit. It's easy to play but so much fun

mumontherun14 · 31/12/2020 14:28

Cluedo (mid teens) could play it again and again. Strange Things Monopoly and Jumanji (probably a bit young for them but still liked it xx

UndertheCedartree · 31/12/2020 14:57

I bought Scotland Yard for my 8yo but she wandered off not long after we started. Myself and 13yo really enjoyed it though. I bought Mysterium Park for my 13yo and the 8yo loved that as did we!

Equimum · 31/12/2020 18:42

Just turned 8yo is loving Exploding Kittens, Cluedo, Labyrinth, Ticket to Ride First Journey and Catan.

5 year old lives Guess Who, Pop to The Shops and Buckaroo.

MoonlightMedicine · 31/12/2020 18:47

Sequence and Hotel Tycoon are favourites here. Kids are 6 and 8.
