I bought Santa's Rooftop Scramble after seeing it recommended on here and got it out a week before Christmas and my kids aged 5, 7 and 9 loved it and we have played it loads. I may put it away to get out again next christmas, but wondered what other boardgames have been a hit this year and for what ages?

To the PP who said Ticket to Ride needs a few plays - it does, but its so worth it when you get into it. We first played it about 2 years ago (with 9yr olds and 13 yr olds) bit we probably play it at least once a fortnight now. We have 4 or 5 of the extension games (UK, America, Africa, Rails & Sails). We all love it.

Burrito has been a hit this Christmas. Other faves are Rummikub and Carcasonne.

@InTheLongGrass I’m in agreement with you on exploding kittens. I got it because I’d seen so many on here rave about it, and to be fair DH and DD enjoy it but I just cross my fingers I explode quickly Wink

Goldenphoenix · 01/01/2021 23:54

For my four and eight year olds we love Funny Bunny, Ticket to Ride, Enchanted Forest, Cluedo, Monopoly, Pizza Pizza, Dread Pirate, Race Track

The card game “Santa Cookie Elf Candy Snowman” was much enjoyed by me, DD1 (13) and DS (11). My hand hurt though 😂 it’s a speedy game.

I didn’t see the hype over exploding kittens either. As far as card games go here, our usual choices are sushi go and go nuts for donuts.

Absolutely love TTR.

We play ludo a lot! Downfall and cluedo. Tension and logo game is good too

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives · 02/01/2021 10:05

DD (5) really liked Hit The Hat. Labyrinth is an old favourite too here!

Hollybutnoivy · 02/01/2021 10:16

Camel Up! From 10 - adult- although we play a slightly simplified version for the adults. Wink

lorisparkle · 02/01/2021 10:31

We bought Risk - have a 10, 12 and 14 year old. They played it non stop for 5 hours on Boxing Day and 5 hours non stop on New Year Eve!

DS1 got the Monopoly card game. We played it multiple times on New Year's Day and I can imagine it will be a great game to take places as it is small, portable and quick.

Toilet trouble, early bird and soggy doggy went down well with my kids. Aged 5, 9 and 13.jenga was good fun with the older two

EnglishGirlApproximately · 02/01/2021 17:36

Exploding Kittens (although DS is driving me mad with his 'nope'), Mario edition Uno and Trivial Pursuit family have gone down well. We're enjoying The Cube but a bit of a faff to do so probably be played a bit less.

Shufflebumnessie · 02/01/2021 21:07

DS is 8. He struggles academically and finds lots of games to complex and therefore gets frustrated or loses interest quickly. To my delight he is currently loving Pass the Pigs, Uno & Dobble. He also like Guess Who?
He also likes a few of the Orchard Toy games - Magic Cauldron, Pop to the Shops, Shopping list & Spooky Steps.
He's actually asked for the inflatable version of Pass the Pigs and Hungry Hippos for his birthday. It's the first time games have actually been requested.

DD is 3. She loves Pig goes pop, Guess Who? and the Orchard Toy games listed above as well as a cupcake one and a match the mermaid one (can't recall their exact names).

GandalfTheGoat · 02/01/2021 21:15

Dobble kids for 5yo DD - we've played it most days since Xmas and am planning on buying her the normal version for her bday.

Randomrebel · 02/01/2021 21:16

Can’t remember the ages but our two now teenagers have played games for years such as cards, guess who, monopoly, snakes and ladders, charades, scrabble, we also play who am I whereby I write some names on a post it and in turns we stick on their heads and they ask questions to find out who they are. We played it this Christmas and as teens we had answers such as Boris, Trump, Freddie Mercury, Lady Gaga, husband had a work colleague, one of them had me on etc.

SummerLightning · 02/01/2021 21:19

Wingspan is our hit. Kids are 10 and 12

Randomrebel · 02/01/2021 21:20

Also forgot about Pictionary, Articulate and Pandemic (for older ones).

Drogonssmile · 02/01/2021 21:34

My two boys 4 and 7 love Dobble. The 4 year old is amazing at it. He has such quick reflexes, it's bizarre! Really pisses off his older brother though as he's used to winning everything else they play!

Puffalicious · 02/01/2021 22:26

Blokus- mega hit with DS8 DS14 and DS16 so wide appeal.

Rainbow Jenga (Jaques of London only £8). Quite a few different ways to play it.

Querkle still.a favourite (last year)
5 second rule an old favourite- love it.
Ditto, Flags of the World.

Smartiepants79 · 02/01/2021 22:34

Colour brain, and Just One are 2 new ones we’ve had that have been very successful.
Mario monopoly.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 02/01/2021 22:37

We all loved Sloth In A Hurry today - so much fun, we laughed so much!

DS (6) loves Bugs In The Kitchen but it doesn't grip the rest of us!

OdeToAutumn · 04/01/2021 22:46

Super Mario Uno - DS asks to play it about 50 times a day. Throw throw burrito has gone down well, but we all get quite competitive Grin

Has anyone got bears vs babies? My son got given some money and he wants to buy a game. He likes the look of that one but a lot of the reviews mention it is a bit long winded and rules are overly complicated.

Biglumpycustard · 06/01/2021 18:22

Battleships and pensilly game

Rachellow · 16/01/2021 23:43

G'day Bruce whilst not a card game worked incredibly well when we were slightly pissed (except for the 15 year old) after Christmas Eve dinner. For the uninitiated it starts with everyone being called Bruce
Person 1 "G'day Bruce"
Person 2 "G'day Bruce"
Person 1 "Say G'day to Bruce (Person 3), Bruce" then Person 2 starts with Person 3.
If anyone makes a mistake or their Australian accent is unconvincing, they're downgraded to Sheila, Kangaroo, Wombat then out. It sounds easy but gets confusing quickly when everyone has different names!
The postit name on the head game for us didn't work this year and we gave up after 30 mins haha
