Balsam hill or Christmas tree world pre lit tree for next year please??

Next year I am getting a bigger tree and want a 6 foot pre lit. I chatted with Christmas tree world and they recommend the woodland pine. Both have money off and balsam hill is of course more money. I want to buy one to keep for many years...I really want one that is full and thick... that you can’t see the wall behind when it is lit up? I know all about fluffing up the branches etc as you put it together so it isn’t me letting the tree down.

Which would be best??

Tia

We bought the 6ft pre-lit Balsam Hill Swiss mountain pine this year and it’s beautiful. It seems to be one of BH’s ‘mid range’ trees, but it looks fabulous. I got mine in the July sale with an extra £50 off. I think in total I paid £150ish, which seems similar in price to a lot of the 6ft trees on Christmas Tree World.

I’m so glad we bought it, the lights are stunning. The branches have different textures too so it looks more realistic than most artificial trees. It did take a lot of fluffing but it was worth it, and it shouldn’t take as long to fluff it all out again next year.

It’s in our front window and a couple of neighbours AND our postwoman have all asked where it was from, which I’ve never been asked before with our old Next tree Grin

Thanks for replying. I like that one! Can you see through it? @WhatAreWordsWorth

Not really! There are a couple of really tiny gaps in mine where I got a bit lazy with the fluffing but it looks great still. Didn’t need loads of baubles. If you look on the BH website there are loads of pics of the tree in peoples’ homes.

My pic is on there but I won’t say which as it’d be a bit outing!

Dachshelp · 29/12/2020 16:05

Thanks @WhatAreWordsWorth I’m trying to work out when is best to buy... kind of want to get it now as in the ‘zone’ and can get it up on the loft now but i wonder if the prices are ever likely to drop much lower than they are now....

I think now and the July sale are when prices are lowest. It’s worth signing up to BH’s mailing list too as that’s how I got a £50 off code.

We bought the b and q thetford Christmas tree, it's 7.5ft. Looks lovely

@WhatAreWordsWorth I have joined it but not giving any codes sadly. I have googled but only codes are for if you are spending more.

@krj2688 that’s pretty!

We have the 7ft woodland pine from Christmas tree world and it's great! So quick to put up and looks so full, def worth the money. Our isn't prelit but having liked ours my mum just bought the woodland pine prelit one for this year and she's very impressed

Dachshelp · 29/12/2020 17:47

Does anyone know how i can compare the 2 on terms of what you get for your money/working out which would look the fullest?

OP posts:
Dachshelp · 29/12/2020 17:52

I would look at the prelit woodland pine (that’s the one they recommend for ‘fullness) and the Swiss mountain pine on balsam hill. It looks like the Christmas tree world one has 1000 more branch tips but that can’t be right can it??

We have a balsam pre-lit. I don't recommend getting one with snow on it as it leaves snow everywhere when putting it up and taking down but otherwise very happy with it and you can't see through it

Dachshelp · 29/12/2020 19:07

No I wouldn’t get a snow one for that reason! I have a lovely glittered Garland and the glitter gets EVERYWHERE each time I get it out Grin

I have a balsam hill, pre lit, snowy tree. I love it, so easy to assemble, yes there is snow on assembly/takingdown, but whilst up it is never a problem. I would def recommend Balsam hill.

We have the 8ft Woodland Pine, it is brilliant! No gaps, Yes, The 1000 extra tips sounds very likely to be correct.

DS2 bought himself the 6ft version as he liked ours so much.,

Dachshelp · 30/12/2020 20:23

@TrickyD why would the balsam hill one (notoriously expensive) would have less tips than a cheaper one do you think? Is it just paying for a ‘brand’?

OP posts:
TrickyD · 31/12/2020 09:55

Yes, Dachshelp, exactly.
Have a look at the Facebook page called ’Balsam Hill Complaints’ before you buy.

OatcakeCravings · 31/12/2020 19:58

I have a BH tree, must be nearly 10 years old and it still looks fine, not as good as when I bought it mind but it certainly doesn’t need replaced, so it’s been worth the initial outlay.

Lily193 · 31/12/2020 19:59

Balsam Hill - nothing else compares in terms of quality.

Dachshelp · 31/12/2020 20:17

But the Bh one has less lights and loads less branch tips.... yet more expensive despite being the same height? What makes BH ones more superior to the Christmas tree world when there are less lights and less branch tips? I specifically want one that isn’t gappy and can’t see through it when the lights are on...

Lily193 · 31/12/2020 22:38

There are no gaps on my BH tree. I've bought a lot of other BH products over the years (garlands, wreaths, ribbon, picks, baubles). The only issue I've ever had was one cracked bauble in a set for which they refunded me immediately. If you're worried about the cost, just buy the cheaper tree.

TrickyD · 31/12/2020 23:36

Not a good photo but a I think it does show the density of the CTWorld tree. No daylight from the window is coming through.

Dachshelp · 01/01/2021 08:03

I can afford either tree now that there is money off... I just don’t want to keep buying trees... I have bought a new one for the last 2 years. So want to donate these somewhere and keep one until it falls apart but I want to be happy looking at it being nice and full ... not the disappointment each year after I have fluffed it up spent ages on it and then feel a bit sad when the lights go on.... I sway toward BH and then toward Xmas tree one and I don’t know now! Both have perfectly fine reviews... BUT the Xmas tree world one has a lot more lights and a lot more branch tips so I think I will get that one../
