Christmas Eve - tell me your plans for today

Happy Christmas Eve all! Obviously today is going to feel really different , we normally go for a nice long walk in the woods, cinema, church, dinner and then all the normal Christmas Eve things. Without all the bits we normally do in the day I’m at a bit of a loss as how to keep today special for the DC ( especially as I’m feeling zero festive) . I’m going to make everyone a nice breakfast and we’ll still get out for a walk (if it’s stopped raining) and thought maybe watch the NT panto on YouTube but any other festive tips would be much appreciated otherwise the DC will be up in their rooms on tik tok 🙄. They’re 10 & 12 so both non Santa 🎅🏻 believers (its DS’s first year of not believing) and I just want to make it feel as special as possible (without me having a mini breakdown). TIA

Slow start as the toddler gave us a festive lie in - Christmas miracle!

This morning not a great deal; I’ll potter and tidy, they’ll follow and cyclone until I wonder why I bother.

Zoom christingle later then hopefully wrap up warm and go for a Christmas lights walk around the neighbourhood.

Everything wrapped, eating at our bubble’s house tomorrow so no food prep beyond find the pudding I made earlier. Keeping things low key to avoid autism-related explosions.

Hopefully earlyish nights for the children, then I shall treat myself to a long bath with carols, stuff stockings, and then stuff myself with a few truffles and a glass of baileys.

Normally we’d have all visiting family here for a mammoth fish based meal. I may still cook the fish. But the smalls won’t eat it without the others here so I might just order a takeaway for us all.

Tangledtresses · 24/12/2020 09:07

Taking the boys and the dog for a very long woodland walk.... later with hot chocolate and special Christmas biscuits mine will have a drop of baileys in it 😃
I've got the kids tidying up, hovering and cleaning windows!

So all I have to do is get ready and cook the ham later cheers 🥂

ProbablyFault · 24/12/2020 09:16

@newlabelwriter, what's the NT pantomime? I think a panto later might be fun 🙂.

We're baking, dropping off presents, and going to the tip 😄.

Sweetener12 · 24/12/2020 09:49

Finish with wrapping presents. I'm a last-minute person.

It's lovely to read what everyone is up to.

Flowers for anyone reading who is feeling lost and lonely this Christmas.

I've a zoom physio appointment this morning. Been tidying up a bit before hand after a lie in. I actually had a reasonable nights sleep last night.

After I'm going to prep the veg for tomorrow and turn our dining room from an office into a dining room again and make it look Christmasy.

Picking up the turkey from a farm. It will be a lot for three of us, but I've made sure there is plenty of space in the freezer for left overs. 2021 will be turkey flavoured.

This afternoon I'm intending to go for a walk for a couple of hours. Back home. Trying to decide whether to have my traditional bath with Carols from Kings before doing the ringing a bell for Christmas cheer thing, or after. timings are tight.

Simple dinner this evening, then maybe some snowballs and a film.

Well right now I’m trying not to laugh at my partner who is throwing a dramatic little strop because instead of coffee his advert calendar has two weird little metal things inside. The word “injustice” has been thrown around a few times, so you know, he isn’t going over the top...

We’re off to the park in a little bit so my son can play while constantly shouting “daddy look” as he does the same thing he does every single time yet still expects me to be amazed.

Then we’re going to watch Brave, then we’re going to do absolutely nothing.

Blacktothepink · 24/12/2020 10:03

Cleaning and making sausage rolls, that is it.

ProbablyFault · 24/12/2020 10:22

Sweetener12, I haven't even started wrapping presents yet 😄🙈. I'll put most of them in reuseable gift bags, and I'm also planning a bit of furoshiki.

Lovemusic33 · 24/12/2020 10:23

We are trying to find somewhere quite to go for a walk but it’s tricky here , we are in tier 2 in a place many have 2nd homes. We are having a take away tonight and probably play a board game before watching something cheesy on tv.

SweetPetrichor · 24/12/2020 10:29

In my home it's only me and DP so no children to worry about entertaining, but we have pizza for tea, watch Terry Pratchett's Hogfather, and have hot chocolate.

Dovesandkisses · 24/12/2020 10:43

Huge tidy up, long walk, pjs and hot chocolate with a film, takeaway dinner, quick board game then hopefully kids will be in bed early and we can build the presents that need building and watch a film.

Jowak1 · 24/12/2020 10:50

Husband finished work yesterday so had a lovely lazy morning watching the Grinch with the kids in our bed. Getting up now and while Hubby is in the garage sorting the last pressies out I'm going to replace our bedding with Star Wars bedding for a surprise for him. Then we will go on a little walk them mulled wine and the Polar Express film later x

Bigoldmachine · 24/12/2020 13:57

Well the treasure hunt was an enormous hit. So pleased. Trying to stop dd getting sleepy. She doesn’t usually have a nap anymore anyway but she’s is cuddled up on the sofa looking droopy eyed. Don’t do it kid! You’ll never get to sleep tonight!!! Going to feed her more snacks to keep her awake!

Happy Christmas Eve everyone

yearinyearout · 24/12/2020 15:16

First thing did some food prep for tomorrow.

Took the dog for a walk where she thoroughly enjoyed sloshing through the puddles...came back, did some housework and more food prep. Just enjoying a peaceful drink and doggy cuddles before everyone else comes back for an early dinner.

Having a few outdoor drinks with the neighbours later.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 24/12/2020 15:34

@twinkletoesimnot

We're flooded - got cows and horses to try to attend to.

Nightmare!!!!

Last night my biggest problem was exchanging presents with my sister. That's definitely not happening now!

Were the animals OK?
SpnBaby1967 · 24/12/2020 16:06

My plan was tidying this morning, walk with the family and my friend, back to mine for a fry up and then movie afternoon before kids bath and bed.

Instead, I got coronavirus. So its been laying on the sofa all day watching movies and dosing up on paracetamol as my throat is sore. I did manage to eat the fry up though & wondering if a glass of wine will have medicinal properties.

Pipandmum · 24/12/2020 16:14

Took son to work, walked dogs, went to bank to find cheque to deposit is now out of date (got it during first lockdown and forgot about it), went to Tesco for last bits and pieces (luckily not a madhouse), have wrapped the last few gifts, convinced my teenage daughter that it really would be nice for her to give her older brother a present, soon I'll go collect son, then plan on having dinner and watching Bridget Jones tonight as my daughter has never seen it. When they've gone to bed I'll be Santa and put the presents under the tree, Jesus in the manger then go to bed!

Allhallowseve · 24/12/2020 19:44

@donewithitalltodayandxmas I think it depends on the leisure centre . The one we went to you need to book number are reduced about a quarter of what they would normally take . No flumes or anything but other than that all normal can use changing facilities showers etc

twinkletoesimnot · 24/12/2020 21:41

@BarryWhiteIsMyBrother

Thankfully yes. Cows totally fine. Ponies shelter 3 ft deep but they were in a dry area of the field. Salvaged most of my stuff and some of their hay.
Just need it to stop raining.

newlabelwriter · 24/12/2020 22:57

Hope you’ve all had lovely days. I’m just waiting for mine to go to sleep 😴 so I can fill their stockings (even though they know it’s me, they don’t want to see me doing it 🙄

Also someone asked about the panto - it’s Dick Whittington by National Theatre, it’s on YouTube - we all really enjoyed it.
