Lamb at Halal butchers?

Hi guys,

I planned to make a lamb shoulder roast (first time!) for Christmas but I could only find half leg in Tesco’s - the rest of the shelf was wiped out!

But it was only small (700g) and I need about 1-1.5kg. as well as that, the Tesco reviews online say that it’s not a very good piece of meat.

So I have decided to get it at local halal butchers (place that I am familiar with) but not sure what to ask for?

Sorry if it’s sounds like a silly question.
I guess what I am asking is, would a halal butchers understand what I mean if I specially ask for lamb shoulder (for a roast)

Please help, Thanks!

Silly question but why would a halal butcher not understand your request for lamb shoulder?

Yes just ask for a trimmed shoulder if it's a roast.

It depends on the butcher I find. I’m a foster carer with 2 Muslim children at the moment. The local butcher has a good range of cuts that I would recognise and buy, whereas the one in the large supermarket sells mainly on the bone pieces and can’t always get what I need. So go in and ask, and be prepared to try a couple of places.

Why wouldn't the butcher understand?

Yes if not they will show you OP.
