Turkey crown - defrosting time

Hi,

So yesterday I bought a fresh 2.7kg turkey crown from Tesco. The use by date was Boxing Day, but as my family are constantly in and out of the fridge, I’ve decided the safest bet was to put the turkey crown into the freezer. I usually always buy a fresh turkey crown on the 23rd and pop it in the fridge until Christmas Day so have never defrosted a turkey before.

I have no idea how long it will take to defrost and whether I’m best defrosting it in the fridge or at room temp? Any advice?

My Iceland one wants defrosting in the fridge for 48 hours I think. However, probably no space so I will defrost on the counter. I might try and cram it in the fridge. Maybe look up a similar frozen one for instructions OP.

I’m taking mine out on Wednesday night and leaving it in the kitchen until the morning. I’ll then put it in the fridge. I’ll take it out of fridge Fri morn if necessary.

I'd be taking it out on Christmas eve around lunch time and leaving in fridge to defrost. First thing in morning, check it's defrosted and if necessary, remove to counter to complete defrosting.

I'll be doing this with my 2.5kg rib of beef - close to 24 hours in fridge then a few hours on counter if needed.

Mine says 12 hours in fridge per kg. So if my sums are right you need to put yours in the fridge Wednesday lunchtime.

Defrosting out of fridge increases chances of bacteria in outer layer and food poisoning.

Thanks for all the advice guys, probably gonna go take it out Wednesday midday and pop it in the fridge as one of you has suggested, fingers crossed it defrosts in time for the big day

Mine is 2.5 kilos and I put it in the fridge to defrost today, just to be sure
