After this shitshow of a year i am going to eat, drink and be merry times 10 this Christmas. What’s your favourite things to eat for some inspiration for my festive shopping list? Apart from the usual turkey and trimmings etc. I’ve a Tesco order coming and a trip to M&S planned.

Ham.

It is the joint I have to hunt for. I can get all manner of excellent birds, but a good joint of ham with thick layer of fat is much more difficult to find.

M&S chorizo pigs in blankets are lovely. My real Christmas treats are mint chocolates and bucks fizz - the premixed stuff in a bottle. I would never buy it the rest of the year but on Christmas morning, i love it!

Get yourself a Sticky toffee pudding trifle from M&S, dig into that and let the horrors of 2020 fade away for a while.

Also all the cheese, sausage rolls and fancy bread.

Whathappenedtothelego · 22/12/2020 09:26

Panettone.
Salted nuts - pistachios & cashews
Petticoat tail shortbread
Cheese of all descriptions
Expensive chutney and pickles.
Smoked salmon
Stollen slices

I’ve been doing a bit of a taste test on mince pies this year. M&S finest was in joint first place with Waitrose fig, honey & ginger (which wasn’t particularly mince pie like, but was bloody delicious).

SchoolNightWine · 22/12/2020 19:59

Box of XL cheese crisps - think this may be a West Cumbrian thing thoughGrin

Holothane · 22/12/2020 20:39

Well I’ve got a box of 48 Turkish delight they’ll last ages, the box of cream eggs off dh a few weeks ago, not sure how long the marzipan fruits will last. Cheeselets

Chocolate Yule log, the proper one with chocolate fudge icing. Oh and lebkuchen biscuits from Aldi

didireallysaythat · 22/12/2020 21:09

I've got a online shopping coming tomorrow (put the stuff in the basket in October or November when I wasn't feeling very festive) but I have a sneaky plan to go for a walk to the local coop to buy "sofa food". Because from what I reading on MN I might be spending the rest of Xmas on the sofa in lockdown..m

reginafalange2020 · 22/12/2020 21:29

I like to get a turkey crown from M&S it's already got the stuffing in it and wrapped in bacon. Cook it in the slow cooker and its lovely.

As ham and I love those German Christmas biscuits- can't remember the name though

Whattheduck · 22/12/2020 21:34

Lots of different cheeses
Baked Camembert (we have one with onion in this year) and fresh crusty bread
Big bags of crisps
Pate
Sherry trifle
Shortbread
Chocolate orange

LookingAfterLittleArfur · 22/12/2020 21:43

Not Christmas food but one I discovered this week - truffle flavoured crisps.
We’re picking up the turkey tomorrow so I’ll call in M&S and get some more.

champagneplanet · 22/12/2020 22:00

Pigs in blankets
Cheese and crackers
Dips and breadsticks (or anything else to do the dipping)
Champagne / Prosecco
Frozen party nibbles for a lazy 'carpet' dinner
