Mine was a massive bag of sweets and a rabbit fur coat (handmade by my granddad). I remember petting it, it was so soft! Then eating so much chocolate that I threw up. I was about 5/6? My mum tells me that there were toys as well, but I don't remember them at all, I was just enamored with the coat.

This was obviously decades ago and in a country where you need to wrap up warm unless you want frost bite!

The bike I got when I was about 10. I had lived my bike when I was younger, but then we moved and were in a flat in the city centre for a few years, so no bike. Having a bike again felt like freedom Grin

Coincidentally, that year I also got a faux fur jacket that I loved so much I wore it until I was about 16.

Cabbage patch kid. Must have been 4 or 5. I just remember cuddling it all day! I was so delighted!

DrDiva · 19/12/2020 13:49

A ukulele. My delight possibly was not shared by my family.
I played it a LOT.

zaphodbeeble · 19/12/2020 13:53

Sindy House - this one, it was bloody amazing

A doll with hair. I woke in the night and felt my stocking, and her head was sticking out. She had auburn hair and was dressed in a pink and white dress and frilly pantaloons. I called her Adele after Rochester's ward in Jane Eyre. I had been taken to see the film by my mother and aunt, because they liked Orson Welles and Adele was played by Margaret O'Brien who was the same age as me.

I remember several toys, one of my favourites was the ‘lost and found rabbit’ which cried real tears. Also the red chimney pot toy with figures and the Polly pocket money box that had a slot for a £2 coin.

My aunt bought me a Teeter Totter watch when I was seven and my parents got me a Spirograph that same Christmas in 1977.

I bought a Spirograph for myself this year for my 50th birthday. It's still a fun gift.

It was an "adventure kit" when i was 6 or 7. I was massively into the Famous Five and it made me feel I was entering their world. It had a working camera, binoculars, a water bottle, it was great. And not something i had asked for so a surprise. escapetotheseventies.com/70s-toys/adventure-kit/

My brother (teenager at the time) was a paperboy and had worked lots of extra rounds and saved up to buy me a HUGE rotastak hamster cage and hamster. I was so gobsmacked I didn't believe it was for me.

Bloody thing died before New Years... but he got me a much more resilient replacement Grin

A huge box of paper, crayons, paint and other art/craft supplies given by my uncle's girlfriend, who was a teacher.

Still have the book of suggested crafts that came with it, 50 years later.

Biglumpycustard · 19/12/2020 18:37

Oh penny house l, I loved it.

Nettleskeins · 19/12/2020 18:46

Several faves, but I remember some offer ones...
A make your own chess set (felt wrapped round plastic figures!)
A poster with all the "sayings" and idioms on it in one fantastical picture, like" a bird in hand is worth two..."(man staring at two birds in a tree)
A candle making set
A Bunty comic in my stocking

Disappointments were a hardback copy of a Little House book I had already read, from an American godmother, and a pair of stripey tights which were too small

Nettleskeins · 19/12/2020 18:46

Odder

A blue faced blue strapped sekonda watch

A torch that strapped to your hand like a watch.

A tiny vending machine that dispensed tiny chocolate if you put 2p in it.

I was desperate for a scalextric but never got one Sad.Dh bought me one for Christmas when we first got together Grin

A pink hippo with a zip in her tummy and four tiny baby hippos inside. My childhood companion for about a decade.

FrancisCross · 19/12/2020 19:10

Ltdannygreen · 19/12/2020 23:44

Ltdannygreen · 19/12/2020 23:45

And an easy bake oven... wish they still did those 😂

InTheCludgie · 20/12/2020 09:36

Snap FrancisCross and zaphodbeeble! I found the house up in my DF's loft earlier this year when I was clearing it out, had hoped it would still be useable but unfortunately not. I did take a couple of the bits of furniture from the house for my DD who is into Barbie atm

Standrewsschool · 20/12/2020 09:45

Tiny Tears

maybemove · 20/12/2020 10:29

@Lovemusic33 that last my favourite Polly pocket set! I’d play with it for hours! All the coins would sit neatly in rows underneath. I actually kept it and all of my other polly pocket sets and had a huge box my dds played with - until a few years ago and my husband decided to clear out their toys and threw the whole lot away! (I couldn’t talk to him for ages)

I don’t have a lot of memories from when I was younger, but one Christmas I do remember my papa coming to visit us and he brought me these tiny dolls, one had a high chair and one was in a baby walker, they actually walked but I’ve never been able to find them since or what they were called. I was fascinated by them.

GlitchStitch · 20/12/2020 10:31

Big Yellow Teapot. I loved it so much.
