IMPOSSIBLE to buy for??

Does not like: (how did I marry this man????)

  • sports
  • anything related to health and wellness
  • smellies etc (although he does smell nice)
  • tech of all kinds
  • gaming
  • clothes (yes, he wears these but clothes have never been gift items for us)
  • alcohol
  • cooking
  • reading
  • pop culture (telly, movie stuff etc)
  • tinkering with mechanics
  • doesnt really listen to music except in the car, on his phone

"likes":

  • always replies with some stupid big ticket item like a quad when I ask what he wants
  • tinkering with fences , building sheds etc (he is a farmer type but doesnt like new stuff, he likes to find old stuff and use and recycle for this purpose)
  • peanut brittle (this is something?)

He has everything he needs re boots, wellies etc.

If anyone has any ideas or has bought their "impossible to buy for" DH anything - absolutely would be grateful for help.

I think I need a new husband?

Mine is a bit easier to buy for, but I feel your pain!

What about an experience day? Blacksmith forges do days where you can make your own knife or similar. They’re all over the country too. Not the cheapest, but sounds like it might be up his street. Or woodworking tools?

Plus loads of brittle in a big Kilner jar.

Baileysoncereal · 18/12/2020 11:58

I saw a tip on here to upgrade things they already have and like, so are there any new wellies or tools or anything he needs? Or anything he has at home slippers, pjs, belts etc. Boring but seems to do well with these sorts of DH!

Does he like to cook? Or eat? Are there any food subscription services - like a curry club

How about something ‘fun’ he can grow. Not sure if that would be more like work but something he likes, like chilli plants perhaps

A nice coffee mug if he’s outside a lot?

Tough one!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/12/2020 12:26

Yes to upgrading - socks or a scarf/hat, even though they're clothes. I've bought my DP some Paul Smith socks which he will be bemused by but which will make me happy!

Chillis food flask or bottle

Lovely cuddly dressing gown - again, it's clothes but a nice treat!

The ingredients for you/him to make a big load of peanut brittle (or a load of bought peanut brittle)

Cheese and posh pickles made into a hamper

A selection of interesting no alcohol beers

AdoptedBumpkin · 18/12/2020 12:34

Does your DH even exist? Grin I can't think of a man I know who isn't interested in any of the first list.

OhTheTastyNuts · 18/12/2020 14:11

DH and I don't spend a lot on each other for Christmas (we both have birthdays really close to Christmas so focus on those instead).

This year I have bought him some cheese shaped like a heart! He loves cheese. I'll get some nice chutney and crackers to go with it. And maybe some red wine. He'll hopefully get me a box of Lindt balls!

Followtheyellowsicktoad · 18/12/2020 14:20

Sealskins neoprene socks, a painful £25 but warm and non sweaty and waterproof.

Tools or a toolbox to put them in.

A credit note for your local agricultural store.

A board game?

DarlingCoffee · 18/12/2020 18:06

A fire pit? Quad experience day and some
Brittle?

Hugsgalore · 18/12/2020 18:11

Yep mine is like this. He's not in the slightest bit materialistic.

I got him a few experiences in the past which he's loved. Formula 1 driving etc.

Otherwise I buy him jigsaws or puzzles we can do together. (A fair bit lame I admit)

misslomi · 18/12/2020 18:12

What about an Alexa auto thing for his car?

My DP is really hard to buy for as well, thank God he likes anything gadgety!

Anything special like a new watch or some leather jewellery?

Depending on how much you spend maybe a night/weekend away?

coronafiona · 18/12/2020 18:12

Coffee machine?

minmooch · 18/12/2020 18:18

I'd be searching for some projects for him to tinker with?

Like an old engine from a tractor/bike/lawnmower that needs reconditioning.

An old lathe that he could bring to life and then start making you crap/beautiful (depending how good he is) wooden bowls, rolling pins .....

Some old/antique tools that need new life built/rubbed/oiled in to them .....

Buy him some wood to make you some cupboards/shelves/birdhouse/dovecote ...

TweeBree · 18/12/2020 18:25

A framed glamour photo of you.

RebeccaRaspberry · 18/12/2020 18:36

My husband suggest a petrol chainsaw for him.

I mean WTF? That's a serious suggestion from him

Confused1010 · 18/12/2020 18:38

I have a similar OH - farmer, not materialistic although loves sports, shooting, country activities etc so that opens up some scope but already has everything.
I tend to go with an experience day - or tickets to a rugby match or similar - we go together and it’s good fun! This year is obviously different but still options of things to do. He prefers “doing” something and I then tend to buy the odd jumper/fleece/socks or whatever has worn out!

Sadik · 18/12/2020 18:39

How about Handy Farm Devices and How to Make Them (you need this edition, new ones not so nice)

Sadik · 18/12/2020 18:42

My DD would be happy if you bought her a new chainsaw for Christmas Grin (although she'd like a professional range Stihl Li-ion battery one please)

Sadik · 18/12/2020 18:43

OP, my ex was much like your DH - my new DP likes clothes, rugby and alcohol, it's so much easier! (Though I appreciate divorce may seem an extreme solution to your problem)

tenlittlecygnets · 18/12/2020 18:49

He doesn't read??! I couldn't be with a man who didn't read.

CatVsChristmasTree · 18/12/2020 18:52

If he doesn't have one and you can afford it, why not?
Listopad · 18/12/2020 18:54

Swiss Army knife on a chain to keep in his pocket? Handy for cutting twine!

QuietlyExcited · 18/12/2020 18:58

A Swiss army knife? Sealskin clothing items? I've bought my nephew (who sounds similar to your DH) these things. Also experiences: steam train driving, blacksmithing, glass blowing.

Plussizejumpsuit · 18/12/2020 18:59

What are his interests? What does he actually do with himself? Sorry he does sound a bit boring!

Topseyt · 18/12/2020 19:03

My mother once bought my Dad a chainsaw for Christmas.

My Dad loved things like that and it was a great present for him. He spent many happy hours down in his garden shed using it to cut logs for the fire in our living room - a job that he had always done using a hand saw and an axe until then and which had been backbreaking work.

actiongirl1978 · 18/12/2020 19:04

I was in the country stores today and considered some new work gloves for my DH. Second PPs who suggested upgrading existing items.

NewMumma1819 · 18/12/2020 19:11

@lockitdown This is literally my partner. We're both into our doors stuff, he goes deer stalking and shooting as a hobby. Has all the boots, wellies, weather proof clothing he could ever need etc. So I resorted to buying him a personalised pen knife from etsy and also one for him to keep safe for our son for when he's older, kind of like a daddy/son gift. He better like it! 😂 What about a flask to keep a warm cup of tea/coffe/soup in for when he's out in the cold? Could get a personalised one?
