IMPOSSIBLE to buy for??

Does not like: (how did I marry this man????)

  • sports
  • anything related to health and wellness
  • smellies etc (although he does smell nice)
  • tech of all kinds
  • gaming
  • clothes (yes, he wears these but clothes have never been gift items for us)
  • alcohol
  • cooking
  • reading
  • pop culture (telly, movie stuff etc)
  • tinkering with mechanics
  • doesnt really listen to music except in the car, on his phone

"likes":

  • always replies with some stupid big ticket item like a quad when I ask what he wants
  • tinkering with fences , building sheds etc (he is a farmer type but doesnt like new stuff, he likes to find old stuff and use and recycle for this purpose)
  • peanut brittle (this is something?)

He has everything he needs re boots, wellies etc.

If anyone has any ideas or has bought their "impossible to buy for" DH anything - absolutely would be grateful for help.

I think I need a new husband?

@Sn0tnose that's a good call for my DH birthday next year

nancybotwinbloom · 18/12/2020 19:15

A leatherman?

weepingwillow22 · 18/12/2020 19:20

Yep mine too. He has been asking for a pony/horse fior Christmas since he was 8 and nothing else will do. I bought him riding lessons one year which were not good enough as apparently he has to have his own horse 😒

1forAll74 · 18/12/2020 19:21

I like the sound of your Husband. Although I am female,I rather like finding oldie things that can be used for diy,and tinkering with things.It's a special mindset that some people have. He might like a days pass, to go routing around a scrap yard somewhere, which I would love to do. You have to pay for some scrap items, so give him some money. I got a stack of long pieces of decent wood from the scrap place a few years ago, and I now have shelves all around in my shed, put up by me.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 18/12/2020 19:25

@RebeccaRaspberry
I got my dad a petrol chainsaw last year. He bloody loves it. I also put gauze, bandages and blood clotting powder... incase he chopped his leg off!

Needcoffeeimmediatley · 18/12/2020 19:58

Got my DH a chainsaw for his birthday a few years ago, it's the best present he's ever been given apparently.

If he's outdoorsy/farmer type upgrade his coat or body warmer?

Or how about booking him an indoor sky diving session or similar?

OctaviaOrange · 18/12/2020 23:30

@CatVsChristmasTree no no. I ran this thread past my husband and he suggested a chainsaw for the op's husband

I'm lolling at the thought of my husband unwrapping a chainsaw

thelegohooverer · 19/12/2020 06:07

I’ve had great success over the years with some of the following gifts though to my mind they’re not gifts at all.
magnetic wristcuff also welcomed by sewing friends
bendy extendable torch with magnet
Various screwdriver sets (a really good ratchet screwdriver, a set of star screwdrivers for tamper proof screws, teeny screwdriver sets)
battery tester
contour tool

PragmaticWench · 19/12/2020 07:03

What about a Japanese saw? My DF loves tinkering in the garage building things from wood and raves about these. Tools always go down well with him.

Spanielsanddaughters · 19/12/2020 07:32

My DH is a tinkering outdooring lover too.
This does include some tech and books BUT it might be stuff you haven’t thought of.

Suggest:
Some sort of knife. Folding/pen/anything sharp
Whetstone for sharpening knives
Trail cam
Haynes manual on something he likes
Night vision goggles
Binoculars
A big clock to help him keep track of time when tinkering Grin

onyourway · 19/12/2020 07:41

I'm getting mine a chainsaw sharpening kit Smile

Love51 · 19/12/2020 07:45

My kids are getting my hard-to-buy-for husband the Taskmaster board game. Silly things to do for all the family. He's isn't mad on games, but will join in, plus, he can be the taskmaster. I'm getting him a box of food, a dressing, a book, and a personalised mouse mat. Oh, and a handy tool.

DahliaMacNamara · 19/12/2020 07:46

Mine is not like that exactly, but he's prone to choosing himself expensive treats and saying that as they're outside our normal budget he'll consider them Christmas/birthday presents. This is fine, but he pretty much never waits for the big day, so when it comes he ends up with a few socks and chocs to unwrap, while the rest of us have much nicer gifts, and I always feel like shit. He doesn't really like not getting anything else either, but there's only so much in the pot.

firstimemamma · 19/12/2020 08:00

We buy each other birthday presents but have made a pact to never buy for each other at Christmas and instead just buy for our son. It saves a lot of stress and is something we are both happy with. A possibility for you maybe.

Littlemissnutcracker · 19/12/2020 08:06

Decent headlamp or hat with built in headlamp. Dh has one and loves it

Swiss army knife

Travel bag or rucksack - North Face or similar

Oreservoir · 19/12/2020 08:13

@tenlittlecygnets no I couldn't be with someone who doesn't read.
Although my dh's parents never had a book downstairs. When dfil died we found about 8 books in the bedroom cupboard, most of which had been gifted by us!

lockitdown · 19/12/2020 08:35

@RebeccaRaspberry

My husband suggest a petrol chainsaw for him.

I mean WTF? That's a serious suggestion from him

I was asked for his too , one year :)

CherryPavlova · 19/12/2020 08:40

Yes. Absolutely yes.
Mine is virtually impossible to buy for. He won’t give hints. He has what he wants and needs.
He thinks clothing is boring.
He only uses very specific toiletries.
He wouldn’t wear jewellery apart from cufflinks, and he has many pairs.
His running gear is too specific for me to buy.

I now don’t worry too much and just do a weekend away which I give to him plus a jumper. Not exciting but not wasted.

He is brilliant at giving presents though.

lockitdown · 19/12/2020 08:50

Thank you so much for some ideas :)

@tenlittlecygnets

He doesn't read??! I couldn't be with a man who didn't read.
It's all good. I read enough for both of us :)

@DarlingCoffee

A fire pit? Quad experience day and some Brittle?
Silly bastard made his own fire pit. This is what I am dealing with,
OP posts:
Sadik · 19/12/2020 12:39

@Plussizejumpsuit

What are his interests? What does he actually do with himself? Sorry he does sound a bit boring!
He doesn't sound boring at all to me! A person who fixes fences / makes a firepit / builds sheds sounds thoroughly useful Grin
Scr00gy · 19/12/2020 12:40

What comes to mind is a "voucher" for a day out to the antique fair or something? So you'll take him out to look at old stuff to tinker with, set a budget, buy him some things there, treat him to lunch and a pint.

Actually, that's probably my idea of a perfect gift Grin I hate presents for the sake of it, and really don't want another bubble bath set this year but suspect MIL will provide.

Sadik · 19/12/2020 12:41

Would he like a tripod or trivet to go with his firepit?

Or a course in tanning his own leather?

ShrikeAttack · 19/12/2020 12:46

Has he got a whetstone for sharpening his tools on?

Or a decent toolbelt?
