Last minute present for my mum!

I've just had an email saying one of my mum's Christmas presents isn't going to arrive in time so now need to find something to replace it pretty urgently as will need to give them to her by the 23rd at the latest. I now can't think of anything else to get her though so please help with any ideas.

So far, I have got her an afternoon tea in a railway carriage (she like afternoon tea, my step dad likes trains, it seemed to tick both boxes), some salt and pepper mills she wanted, a pretty bottle of gin, a book she wanted, chocolates, some hand creams as she's got quite into gardening recently but her hands get sore, and had ordered space masks but they now won't arrive in time.

Her general likes are history & historical fiction, stately homes, opera, gardening, cooking/baking, spa treatments, theatre. She has a lot more money than me so it's difficult to buy things she would like as she spends an awful lot more on her usual things than I can afford, but I do like to try to get her something nice and thoughtful, especially as she very much equates presents with love and thinks that if you don't get her much it means you don't care.

I would be very grateful for any ideas for another present for her, probably no more than £30, though if you have any amazing ideas that cost more do share as always useful for future presents! Thanks so much for any help.

I need to order spacemarks!

Gardening diary, you can find once that give you ideas on what to do in the garden each month.

*Spacemasks

This sounds very simplistic but it's what I would do
Could you give her an IOU with a photo
with a complementary item?
Something like a small pot of eye cream/ gel and/ or a sleep mask or similar

2gorgeousboys · 18/12/2020 17:42

I wouldn't get her anything else, she's got plenty of things on your list already to open so I'd leave it at that and give her the Spacemasks when they arrive.

WillSantaBeComingToTown · 18/12/2020 17:57

That is already very OTT- what does she get you?
Time to wean her off being so selfish- get a goat.

I was going to suggest similar, you've spent a lot on her already. Do you mind sharing what you are waiting for? Then we can make suggestions for a little something to wrap with an IOU attached. I don't think you need to spend an extra £30.

AnotherEmma · 18/12/2020 18:02

That's plenty already.
I would suggest something thoughtful/ personalised for a rich person who can afford to buy themselves what they want, like a stylish photo frame with a few prints of family photos to choose from to display in it...
But her attitude to gifts sounds a bit off so I'm not sure I'd be inclined to bend over backwards to do even more, given how much you've already done.

I know she probably already has it - but the first thing I thought of after reading your post was if she doesn’t have a national trust membership or English heritage membership or something along those lines that would make a great present!

A pad for kneeling in the garden
A good pair of secateurs
Antonia Fraser book

Thank you everyone for the ideas. You do have a valid point that I could just give an IOU. I'll have to have a think about it, but at least if I do go with that I now have some good ideas for next year too! On a side note, I think I possibly gave the wrong impression - she does have a weird attitude to presents and giving but she is very generous herself too, I have to be really careful to stop her from seriously spoiling my boys. She would happily buy them everything they ever mentioned they might like and more if I let her!

Thanks for all the replies and help. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.
