Can we have another thread about cool brands for 12 year old boys please?

My ds doesn’t really care about brands, which I’m glad about, so I guess I’m after more what not to buy him!

Last time I can see it was asked, Nike, Adidas and Converse were cool (I think). Hype less cool.

Has anything changed?

Thanks

I think Nike and Adidas are always cool, they never really go out of coolness but i guess within that there might be specific trainers etc that are "more cool".

Some of it can be regional too but i still see kids out in The North Face and Converse.

My DSs never cared either but safer to have the generic brands or completely unbranded than the wrong brand I would say.

By from H&M/Zara and you'll probably be pretty ok. The basics are plain, no-one is going to be teased about those either. Also plain basics from Next, be wary of things with designs as they go from age 2-16 sometimes and no-one wants to be wearing what someones 3 year old brother is.

If you are getting trainers just get a simple adidas or nike pair imo difficult to get generic without them looking cheap.

Under Armour I think?

ilovelibraries · 16/12/2020 16:21

@WaxOnFeckOff that's my mindset - he wears a lot of H&M, plain M&S and plain Next. I just thought Christmas might be a chance to buy some more expensive (better quality?) things. He has some GAP things, but I'm aware that none of the other kids seem to. He doesn't mind, but I just don't want him teased. Thanks.

@Balaur yes, I think I have seen some kids in that around here. Thanks.

I work in a secondary school and based on backpack branding I'd say Hype is currently very much in favour, particularly among boys. Superdry also, plus usual sports branded stuff like Nike etc.

Zavetti also seems to be a new runner in the fashion 'cool' stakes.

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/12/2020 16:26

In that case, I'd maybe go for some of the less "in your face" items from Adidas or Nike or Under Armour?

If he wears joggys or track pants then some nice black ones or a hoody with a smallish logo etc. A gentle introduction :)

FairyFairy · 16/12/2020 16:26

Actually, Superdry seems more popular with the girls- they do some very pretty floral backpacks!

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/12/2020 16:27

That's what i was meaning about regionality as well. Kids I see around here don't do Superdry anymore.

LadyCatStark · 16/12/2020 16:32

Superdry is still big around here, but we are a bit behind the times in our quiet part of Northern England. Vans are DS’s favourite brand but he’s a full on skater boy!

WaxOnFeckOff · 16/12/2020 16:39

Good to know that Superdry is still popular as I have a lovely brand new computer bag thing hanging about the spare room that I keep meaning to put on ebay but thought my chances of selling it were past.

Tulipvase · 16/12/2020 16:43

My 12 year old says Adidas is out and it’s all about Nike.

ImNotCutOutForThis · 16/12/2020 18:08

Nike
puma seems to have made a comeback too.
My ds said superdry is OK for a coat but ' dad's and grandads' wear the normal clothes like t shirts.

Under armour.

Friendshighschool · 16/12/2020 18:26

Under armor and champion here. Along with Nike and adidas.

bluebellsparkles · 16/12/2020 19:16

Nike and North Face here, definitely not Hype, that was P6 (age 10)

Scotlass · 16/12/2020 20:09

Under Armour or Nike here

PostPopper · 16/12/2020 20:28

Definitely not Hype or Superdry!

Yes to nike, Adidas, north face & champion

TicTacTwo · 17/12/2020 11:30

Hype is for primary school here and Superdry is warn by parents.

Boys here seem to like the sports brands like Nike (especially Nike Air), Adidas, North Face etc Basically if it's sold in JD you'll be on the right track but I don't see Mackenzie much (the cheapest brand there) I see the odd Hugo Boss/Tommy Hilfiger but that's not the sort of thing that my boys wear,

Tbh both of my teen wear expensive trainers but are happy with plain clothes that you can't tell where they've been bought eg ASOS, H&M etc

Wellthatwassilly · 17/12/2020 15:20

My 12 wears nike and north face.

Adidas is a no go

JamesMoriarty · 17/12/2020 15:26

Nike, Under Armour, North Face. Vans are still pretty popular here for bags and trainers.
Agree Hype is more primary school.
