About a year ago, possibly, you mentioned in a thread about one of those tins you can save money in. This time last year I was utterly miserable - no money, ds1's birthday is 2 weeks before Christmas etc.etc.

So I went and got a tin thingy in January and have been saving all year for ds1's first 'proper' party (soft play centre/nightmare/expensive) and Christmas.

We opened it today - there's £220 in it!!!!

Am sooooo happy. It easily pays for ds1's birthday + a fair amount for stuff for them.

Just wanted to thank you. I blardy love Mumsnet!

Bloody hell!

Did you put a set amount in it each week Dotty? Or just chuck a £1 in it from time to time?

I'm sure that was a nice surprise!!

We do similar - with a big whiskey jar -must go and count up as ours is almost full.

anyone seen these
They are too beautiful to smash open IMO!!

Bumping for Olive!

I tended to put in a fair bit in the week after pay day - so I shoved the odd £5 and even £10 in there - knowing I couldn't get it out again was very pleasing!

Would never have saved up that much in a bank account - my only savings account is for £50 a month and every single month I transfer it back to my current account before payday - so it's only ever got about 3pm in it...

So this really has made all the difference this year

DottydotsofBloodOnTheFloor · 23/10/2007 12:38

5 I know - ds1 will be six soon, which is OK, but the thought that ds2 will be 4 in April is already making my bottom lip wobble - where have my babies gone??!

Dot, when they're 30, you and dp will be looking at each other wearily, going, "What, they're still here?"
