The twitch and worrying that I haven’t bought enough

It’s that time running up to Christmas where I have finished my Christmas shopping but I’m starting to worry that I haven’t bought enough or that the kids gifts are not even. Anyone else start panicking and then end up twitching and buying things you don’t really need? Things that won’t get touched?

I need to learn from previous years that most last minute buys never get used or played with.

DD’s are 14 and 16, the 14 year old is mentally a lot younger (ASD), my 16 year old hasn’t asked for much and isn’t expecting a big pile of presents, she couldn’t really care less if she has 3 presents or 33. Youngest doesn’t really have a ‘wow’ present but has 3 Lego sets and a few little things plus clothes. I know they will be pleased with what I have bought them.

I need to stop myself buying anything else, they don’t need anything else and dd2 is probably more excited about food than she is presents.

Anyone else feel like this every year?

Yes I do this every year. Always end up spending a couple more hundred pounds in late December trying to bulk things out.

Yes, just bought 2 books for DD1 as I decided the one I had already wrapped was too young for her so relabelled it for DD2. Thinking I need one more thing for my Dad as he's spending the day with us...

We wrapped all the dc's presents today. I am not going to buy them anymore because I would need to go to loft (not very easy) to get the special Santa wrapping paper. I did twitch with dh though. I got a beard set from Amazon warehouse with 20% off that worked out to be 40% off from rrp.

Picked up all the Harry Potter books 2 for £7 in Asda for DD10. She watched the films properly for the first time this year (older DC had them on), and she does love to read. I think I'll give her the first 3 for Christmas and the rest I'll put away for her birthday next year.

Also new boots for all DC. They have decent winter ones but I found some I knew they'd love just for going places in (if we ever get to go out for meals again!), so they were a must.

My next twitch will be food. I always panic and think I haven't bought enough so end up buying another bag full for the fridge during my last shop. Good thing we all like leftovers!

@lunar1

I just ordered the maze runner books for ds1 that a friend mentioned this morning 🤦🏻‍♀️
I’m sure ds will love them, my dd read these over and over as well as Hunger games.

I just keep reminding myself how little I enjoy wrapping. This keeps me away from "topping up"
DD is 18 and has some money herself now so if there is anything she desperately wants after Christmas she can get it.
I also have to remember that she gets gifts from her Dad as well as me and her Step-dad.
Just remember this is what the big corporations want you to do. Stick two fingers up at them. Figuratively speaking, don't stand in the shop swearing. 😉

I’ve just bought some disco lights from Amazon as a joint present. I feel like I need Matt and Noel to say a variation of “Bakers! Your time is up! Please step away from your showstopper!” Grin

I went through all my presents this afternoon and to my relief the older two have about the same amount (but also realised to my horror I'd forgotten to get a present for my nephew).
I'm panicking slightly as I haven't wrapped anything but my husband has the day off tomorrow so hoping to do it then.

Currently have £100 worth of twitchy gifts in my John Lewis basket. We’ve all said no gifts for adults this year but am now contemplating table gifts for the in-laws because well it’s been a shit year and I want Xmas to be nice. FFS hate the twitch!!

Howmanysleepsnow · 17/12/2020 00:19

I need to twitch. DD13 has less then her brothers.

Sounds like a lot of you do your shopping quite early this leaving time for panic buying. In a usual year I start my shopping about now and get it done within about 3 nights of online shopping leaving me with no time for twitching. This year, I started a couple of weeks ago. I’m constantly thinking to myself that I’ll just pick up x for someone as they’d like it! I’m not sure Ive spent any more or any less but it feels like I’ve gone overboard with at least 20 of the people on my list Grin
My problem is that I love wrapping so I’m always keen to do more...
