Gift ideas for a wonderful friend

I have a friend who’s been one of my closest friends for decades. But every year I really struggle to know what to buy her and was wondering if anyone could suggest anything as I’ve spent hours browsing the internet and I’m still clueless.

She’s one of those lovely people who I suppose you could describe as being old before her time. She doesn’t go out much, enjoys reading, baking, loves the theatre or a period drama, although doesn’t watch much tv. She doesn’t live near me anymore. She’s single and has no children.

My budget is approx £40. If anyone has any suggestions I’d be incredibly grateful as honestly I’m clueless at this stage and she’s really a lovely friend

How about a selection of contemporary play scripts? (As in written very recently.) Covers reading and theatre. (Happy to suggest some!)

Baking ... Maybe a selection of types of cooking/baking chocolate? The FT mentioned this company today and I'm very tempted.

Or, as relief against enforced staying at home, one or two art tomes to correspond with current exhibitions. I'm recommending:

'Fly In League With The Night' by Lynette Yiadom-Boakye'

to everyone at the moment. The hardback would hit your budget limit, the paperback would leave room for something else.

An electric hot water bottle. They are fab. Or electric throw.

Jewellry-if she wears silver you could get something good on eBay
