This is always my worry if I'm spending too little/much.
Friend 1.a dressing gown, slippers, chocolates and just a costume jewellery watch £50 ish

Friend 2.pjs,slippers,bath bomb,chocolates,festive socks £40 ish

What's your limit ?

I have only bought a gift for one friend and I think it was £8.99.

pinkksugarmouse · 11/12/2020 13:25

I would feel very uncomfortable if a friend spend £40 or £50 on me. I am not struggling financially but I am not wealthy and thats well out of my budget for a friend.

grapewine · 11/12/2020 13:27

Don't buy for friends. We haven't for years. We would normally meet up for a coffee but probably not this year.

FizzyPink · 11/12/2020 13:38

Wow I’d love to be your friend! This year I’ve done personalised mugs filled with Lindor balls for 5 friends which has cost me about £60.
We usually do a secret santa but with no chance of seeing everyone together I thought it would be nice to do a token gift.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 11/12/2020 13:42

I don't buy presents for friends. I have enough people to buy for as it is (large family!) But we make sure we have an evening out together (in normal times!) and we buy bubbly and exchange cards. That's it.

MogsHeade · 11/12/2020 13:46

No. It's hard enough with kids and family, I don't know anyone who buys presents for friends.

Love51 · 11/12/2020 13:52

I buy for one friend. She doesn't have kids - most people I stopped buying for them when I started buying for their kids! I quite like getting something from her too, that is for me, not the husband, house or children. We spend about £15.

Chloebowy · 11/12/2020 13:53

I don't buy for friends - family only

Snog · 11/12/2020 13:55

Around £30

Lovemusic33 · 11/12/2020 14:18

I only buy for one friend, she lives alone and has no kids so I like to get her something to open. This year I have done her a gift bag full of little things like face masks, soap and glory (she loves it), some wax melts and a few other things (I have totally forgotten). Probably spend about £20.

pilates · 11/12/2020 14:22

Nothing

actiongirl1978 · 11/12/2020 14:23

The last time I bought a friend a Xmas present was about 1993 and it was a forever friends pencil case.

I buy one friend a present every year budget about £25.

Otherwise my money is spent on husband and children. We don't give Xmas gifts to parenta, stopped years ago. Just eat nice food together.

WillingWarlock · 11/12/2020 14:23

The same as I would for a birthday gift - between £10 and £20.

actiongirl1978 · 11/12/2020 14:23

That should say birthday present every year

VestaTilley · 11/12/2020 14:24

Not buying for friends anymore- if we’re close I might buy for their DC, but I have a DS now and a large family so can’t afford gifts for friends anyway. I think gift exchange between salaried adults is a bit daft (not including own parents etc) so would only buy friends a gift for special milestone birthdays/weddings/babies being born.

sunshineandshowers21 · 11/12/2020 14:29

me and my best friend spend around £50 on each other - although i sometimes spend more because she also spends about £20 each on my 4 kids! the rest of our friendship group do a £20 secret santa.

draughtycatflap · 11/12/2020 14:32

None. They are all bastards.

KizzyWayfarer · 11/12/2020 14:44

I think even where money’s no object it’s very unusual to buy friends four or five presents each. But as long as everyone’s happy and not feeling under pressure to reciprocate with a similar spend / number of gifts, then do what you want, there’s no rule against it!

ShopTattsyrup · 11/12/2020 14:46

My oldest and best friend, no specific budget but somewhere around the £20 mark for both birthdays and christmas. A couple of books she might like or a book and some fun socks etc. I did spend more on her birthday this year becuase she was stuck on her own during lockdown for her birthday and pre covid I would have given her a couple of books and taken her out for a pint.

FoxInABox · 11/12/2020 17:00

One close friend I spend about £50 on, also buy for her DC and her DH. Over close friend doesn’t have DC and always buys for ours despite me saying she doesn’t need to, so I like to buy her and her partner something special, probably spend around the £100 mark between the two.

Lemonsyellow · 11/12/2020 17:03

Nothing. But the amounts you listed seem high to me. That’s what I’d spend on my DH or children. But whatever suits your budget or your friendship group is fine.

reginafelangee · 11/12/2020 17:04

Not a bean.

I haven't bought presents for friends since I was in high school.

katy1213 · 11/12/2020 17:04

Dressing gown, slippers, chocolates and a watch for £50????? Where are you shopping?

Dovesandkisses · 11/12/2020 17:05

Token gift e.g Christmas baubel. But most of us have stopped. We agreed we started having children to stop. We buy children (normally around £10 per child)

firstimemamma · 11/12/2020 17:06

I've given my friends hand made body scrubs this year. Think they cost about £4 per jar to produce but smell so nice and I put time and effort into making them.
