I am quite stuck on what to get my dad. He never wishes for much, and is all about the practical/boring gifts. It doesn’t help that due to covid I’ve barely seen him this year so haven’t picked up on any ideas of what he needs or would like.

Please share!

It's my dads birthday next week so been tough to think of something for both!! We normally send mum and dad on a Christmas theatre break for a few days but have changed this to a break away later in 2021.
Fir birthday he's getting a fresh delivery of seafood from the ethical seafood company based on the Isle of Mull with a bottle of his favourite whisky.
Christmas - the trip away plus books, bamboo socks, funny Belgian chocolates and a couple of nice shirts from M&S.

For my dad, I got him ankle height wellies. He saw mine and commented how he thought they would be a good idea for him so I jumped in and bought them.

For my fil, I still have no idea.

I got a few shirts, some fancy coffee capsules for his Nespresso machine and some high quality tools.

My father is 65, his birthday is just after Christmas. I am getting him a “weekend “ leather bag that he was looking at when they last visited us just before COVID. Hopefully he can use it and come and visit in a few months. Usually I always get him a nice shirt as he always wears shirts and one year we got him a coffee machine with my sister.

I'm giving mum and dad £100 towards a new shed, and DBro is too.

They are also getting shortbread (from DS1) and a handprint bauble (from DS2).

I've ordered my 60 year old dad a David Austin rose. I hope he'll enjoy looking at it and thinking of us.

My DF is a bit older but I always buy him a selection from the following: nice wine, a new jumper, smarties, maybe a shirt. In normal years I buy him theatre tickets too. All things he appreciates and uses and he is genuinely delighted to get.

shipperssss · 09/12/2020 08:57

I always forget how 'young' my dad is for his age, he is 64 and I have bought him trousers for racing his motorbike Hmm

My dad is 60. I'm getting him a bottle of port and some stuff for his hobby (fishing). Possibly some sweets too.

Lovemusic33 · 09/12/2020 11:57

I have bought my dad some car detailing and cleaning products (made a little car cleaning hamper) as he’s just bought himself a nice shinny Range Rover 🤣. He’s really difficult to buy for as he tends to buy anything he wants, he’s fussy with food and clothes so I went for something practical.

17caterpillars1mouse · 09/12/2020 12:28

Vodka and a gift box of red wine. Tried other gifts in the past but all he really wants is alcohol

lucysmam · 09/12/2020 14:26

So far; mine is getting a scarf (a nice one...but still, it's a scarf), and a Christmas cake.

I'm hopefully going to town at the weekend so fingers crossed something jumps out at me then!

PerditaNitt · 09/12/2020 15:01

Loccitane toiletries ( joint box of goodies for both parents and a cheese gift box from cheese geek for my dad. Bit boring, but he doesn’t many hobbies.

Love the idea of a rose bush from a PP. my parents bought me some rose bushes when I moved house and they bring me so much joy. Great gift.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/12/2020 15:24

My dad is a bit older but very active and likes practical gifts. I've bought from me and DS:

  • birdbox camera
  • geocaching premium membership
  • stand for his circular saw
  • cocktail making kit for his bar
  • bottle of gin

Hopefully he will find them all useful!
