Fancy dress outfit for 12 year old?

My ds12 has asked for a miles morales fancy dress costume (Spider-Man).

He hasn't worn fancy dress since he was about 7 and I don't think he'll wear it. He's a big lad so would need small men's size which is £20.

I'm torn - do I get it or not? I've finished his Xmas shopping already but he hasn't asked for anything really apart from this. If I don't get it then how do I explain it? He still believes.

Fancy Dress just turns into cosplay for teens and adults. Cosplay is a hugely popular hobby for teens and adults with conventions like Comicon. Many dress as superheroes. Why can't he have it?

I didn't think of it as cosplay - thanks.

He only asked for it yesterday so I wasn't sure he'd actually use it. I'll get it anyway and hope he puts it on a few times 😂

You could always take him to comic con next year, loads of people will be dressed up there

If I could afford it I’d probably get it for him, especially as it’s all he’s asked for. If it feels like overkill, could you possibly look at holding something back for his birthday? That’s my usual way of justifying it! I would have the same reservations of it not being used though but hopefully he’ll get some fun and enjoyment out of it Smile

If it's the only thing he's asked for I'd probably get it but I think I'd try and say are you sure, ask when he's likely to wear it, see if you can talk him into something else.

But at 12 I doubt he still believes.

Cosplaying is awesome! And definitely take him to comicon its an amazing experience. I would get him the outfit, if he doesn't wear it much they have a good resell value :)

I've got several cosplay dresses that I wear regularly. Plus an assortment of costumes (I do work in a nursery so my superhero and princess costumes come in handy!)
