I love hearing what others have got their little ones, i like how we have so many different ideas and present traditions. Such as something you want read watch and need. I did that last year and was great or Just one gift from santa or no "gifts" but a panto show.

The one thing i always tend to do is make sure they have the same amount of gifts to open, i don't always spend the same on them as one daughter may really really want an item at £15 and the other £50. I never try and match as it's usually money not needed to spend.

For DD1 (nearly 2):

  • balance bike and helmet from Bobbin
  • Jellycat plush
  • puzzles and books
  • wooden pretend makeup set from Le Toy Van
  • dressing gown from My 1st Years & Peppa Pig slippers
  • outfit from Boden

For DD2 (6 months)

  • Fisher Price jumperoo
  • Lamaze airtivity table
  • Jellycat plush
  • Skip Hop toys (piano dog, shape sorting yeti, building blocks)
  • dressing gown from My 1st Years
  • outfit from Next

I try to get them both a 'big' present or two, then little things to cover the rest of the bases. I know they're still young so I could get away with getting less, but I like getting things they'll play with for the rest of the year. I'd say next year will be the first year of 'Santa' really coming into play.

I haven’t got a blood clue for mine, toddler is sorted but the 8/10/11 year olds, absolutely bloody clueless and starting to panic!!!

MummaBear4321 · 06/12/2020 07:55

We have bought our 2 year old and newborn a wooden wendy house for the garden. It was pretty expensive (200 quid) but they will get great use out of it over the years. We also got the 2 year old lots of crafting stuff like paints and stickers, hair clips, playdough, and sweets to open on the morning. She will also have presents under the tree from my family as they live abroad so they have sent stuff in advance. For the newborn, it was just token santa presents of a tummy time water mat, those stacking eggs in an egg box, and rattles.

WhispersOfWickedness · 06/12/2020 08:14

@xoxogossipgirl2020 I've got a 9 and 10 year old, here's what I've got them for ideas for you!
10 yo:
T-shirt
Skeleton onesie
Book about coding
Space bedding
Pokemon cards
Geomags
Pac-Man monopoly
He's into drawing floor plans, so got some architect books, graph paper and floor plan stencils

9yo:
Tie dye kit plus some plain t-shirts & bags
Dance shoes
Dance costume
Books
Geomags
Sylvanian families

It's also the 10yo birthday soon, he's getting a scooter, several books, lego dots, a hoody and his first phone.

BangingOn · 06/12/2020 08:34

DS turns 7 just after Christmas. He has asked for Nintendo Switch games, anything Pokemon and surprises.

Stocking:
Pokemon annual
Pokemon sweets/snacks from Japan
Pokemon PEZ
Pokemon bath bombs
Pokeball keychain for his book bag
Drink bottle and snack box for school
Giant stick on googly eyes (he’s seen these on YouTube videos and thinks they are hysterical)

Under the tree:
2 Mega Construx Pokemon sets (including 1 I had to buy from Japan)
2 Nintendo Switch games
Pokemon Tournament
Pokemon collector tin
Pokemon hoodie

It doesn’t look that much written down, but he will be delighted with everything and I don’t want to buy for the sake of it, especially with a birthday just a few weeks later.

Alarae · 06/12/2020 08:39

My DD is 9 months old, so not really going all out as let's face it, she doesn't 'get' Christmas!

She has four board books (Tales from Acorn Wood), a baby bath boat and a Disney Store Christmas 2020 Stitch. All going in the big red velvet initial Christmas sack I managed to finally get from B&M.

I have probably spent more on her cousins (nearly 8 and 2) but I live away so I don't see them often. Plus they understand gifting, so they get more enjoyment from the toys I've got them.

ritzbiscuits · 06/12/2020 08:46

@BangingOn can you please let me know where you bought Pokemon sweets/snacks from in Japan? My DS is just 7 and is Pokemon mad!

BangingOn · 06/12/2020 08:49

@ritzbiscuits of course, I bought everything from Japan Centre. Hope you find something he will like. I found Pokemon PEZ dispensers on eBay and the bath bombs with Pokemon figures inside on Etsy.

ritzbiscuits · 06/12/2020 08:50

My DS is 7 and I've bought:

Nintendo Switch Labo
Lego train (only asked for yesterday and luckily in stock at John Lewis!)
Pokemon cuddly toy
Microscope
A good selection of books
A big jar of pick n mix (Made up myself using Tesco sweets and an IKEA jar)
Stocking mainly has Pokemon and Minecraft bits in it

He's also having 2 Nintendo Switch games from relatives and I've bought us some Japanese themed board games for us play over Christmas (King of Tokyo, Machi Koro and Sushi Go)

ritzbiscuits · 06/12/2020 08:54

Thanks @BangingOn
We are very lucky that I have a good friend that goes to Tokyo every year so we had some Pokemon plushes and sweets brought over in January.

They have so much more for sale over there, but have not really found a good site for delivery to the UK.

BangingOn · 06/12/2020 09:01

That’s fab! It’s getting harder to find Pokemon things that aren’t Pikkachu in the UK.

TrickyD · 06/12/2020 09:03

One of our DSs is getting a Eufy Robovac and the other one of those Instapot duo crisp things. But they are 49 and nearly 48 (28Dec)

MeowMeowLikeACow · 06/12/2020 09:03

5 year old:
iPad (8 year old got one last year and she is currently using DH's 10 year old tablet for home learning when isolating and it's just too slow, so this is more of a bonus / essential gift).
Vtech watch
Vtech camera
Giant cuddly penguin
Board game
Books
Plus stocking with various little bits such as mini figures, bath bomb, chocolate, socks etc.

8 year old:
Lego Mindstorms
Exploding kittens
Fitbit Ace
Goo Jit Zu
Books
Stocking with little bits

CloudyVanilla · 06/12/2020 09:07

Oh and OP you said you were interested in traditions :)

My DC are young so I'm only just setting our traditions in stone, but my present related one is that from this year onwards I have devised a sort of stocking "formula" and will use it every year, it's even suitable for when they are adults Halo

We never had stockings as a kid and I always see people on the Christmas boards saying either they are their DCs favourite bits or were their favourite bits when growing up so wanted to do them :)

TheChosenTwo · 06/12/2020 09:17

@ritzbiscuits I was in HMV yesterday and they had a big selection of Pokemon drinks (in cans) and also I think some Japanese snacks. Also they have a big choice of American snacks and drinks in case anyone was looking.

AlwaysLatte · 06/12/2020 09:22

DS12
Nike Air Max trainers

Nike hoodie
Xbox light
Xbox controller grips
Cookery book
Slippers and comfy PJs
Set of reading books (Gone series)
Board game: Taskmaster
Touchscreen gloves
Teddy glow in the dark duvet cover
Super dry Beanie hat
Hopefully an Xbox series x but if not a cheque for it for when it finally comes out!

DS10

3 games for switch
Lego Harry Potter astronomy tower
David Williams ' latest book
Charlie and the chocolate factory cluedo
Teddy glow in the dark stars duvet cover
Galaxy projector

Comfy pjs and slippers

Also hopefully the Xbox series x (or cheque!) although that was really a reward for passing his 11+ so won't be Christmassy paper!

Definitely spent more than usual this year but they missed out on so many activities we would have done this year, not to mention a proper holiday.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 06/12/2020 09:25

My girls are 9&7. One of their hobbies is going camping in the canoe with their Dad. Their main present this year is camping equipment. 9yo has a tent, 7yo an upgraded sleeping bag. They both have a backpack, sleeping mat, towel, and other accessories. Everything is going to be wrapped seperately, then put in their backpacks which is then wrapped.

In addition to that they have a box of baking ingredients and cake decorating bits to share (another hobby).
9yo has a massive pule of books, and a watch.nplus a cookbook and a blank recipe book
7yo has some Cubs accessories and a clock she can decorate herself. She also has a drawing book and sketch pad.

I have a tendency to get a bit carried away with stockings.
They each have...
Shower gel
Flamingo bath puff
Bath bomb
Chocolate Snitch
Chocolate Santa
Hot chocolate melting snowman
Harry Potter door sign
Cubs blanket badge and woggle
Stationery set
Post it notes
Notebook
Chopsticks
Craft kit
Book
Mini Boo
Beanie Boo
Christmas cheese/nuts (one likes cheese, the other nuts)
Whoopee cushion/carrot seeds (from Christmas lists)
Puzzle book/fact cards

They get loads of stuff from other people, so we don't buy many 'big' presents. We've spent a lot more than usual this year, but hoping the camping equipment lasts years.

Amerimoon · 06/12/2020 09:30

@MeowMeowLikeACow what’s your stocking formula?? Sounds interesting!

I just put a magazine & pens; carton of juice & Christmas biscuit (from the bakery on the end of the road, wrapped in cellophane); Christmas accessories to wear (fancy socks and hair clips etc). They’re only tiny yet though so this just keeps them entertained whilst we have a quick coffee in bed!!

DipSwimSwoosh · 06/12/2020 09:32

Oh and the bigger two are getting an LOL each too!

ritzbiscuits · 06/12/2020 09:33

@BangingOn yes, my son doesn't even like Pikachu so a bit of a problem. In case you're interested, I've bought a couple of things from specialist game retailers, Magic Madhouse and Firestorm Games in the past.

@TheChosenTwo the HMV near us has closed, but I'll bear that in mind next time I'm in the city!

BangingOn · 06/12/2020 09:38

@ritzbiscuits thank you! I’ve bought from Magic Madhouse but haven’t heard of Firestorm Games so will check them out.
