What dessert are you having on Christmas Day?

DH not too keen on Christmas pudding so we have to do something else.

I just did a trial run of Nigellas Tiramisu with basically half a bottle of Tia Maria in it. It is lovely, but it is too heavy after a full on roast. I'd make it again but I'd swap some TM for coffee. I'm sure my DS was a bit wasted after eating it.

What desserts are you having. I want to do something decedent, but not too heavy. A few years back we did Delia's chocolate torte and it was so rich I binned it. I keep thinking possibly a fancy cheesecake?

I've made Christmas pud (Delia's) and will make nigellas chocolate sponge pudding with sauce for the children and my dad. I'll also put the cheese board out at the same time.

@8Track try nigellas chocolate cherry trifle if you're after something Black Forest. It's amazing. I always use extra cake. It's gone down well with adults and children alike over the years.

White and milk chocolate moose with raspberries

FrancisCross · 05/12/2020 09:43

Christmas Pudding, M&S Chocolate Pine Cones and Profiteroles for the kids.

Camomila · 05/12/2020 10:45

Panettone (we're Italian) and Yule Log because I've had enough of Panettone!

squashyhat · 05/12/2020 10:50

I'm watching Saturday Kitchen and chef Richard Bainbridge is making a cranberry and marshmallow cheesecake. It's going on my list of possibles Smile

nancybotwinbloom, for a crocembouche that is delicious and easy to construct, look at Iceland. We have had theirs for the last two years and I sent DH off to get one as soon as they appeared on the website.
Far, far cheaper than Tesco and excellent.

We never get round to eating desert on Christmas Day or the cheese - most we do is a sliver of Christmas pud with some cream.

If I was making would definitely do lemon posset - easiest thing ever to make, never goes wrong, can bake it in advance and everyone always likes it - tbh I do very small pots of it as it's rich .

Other thing I would do is pavlova with raspberries and blackberries- love a pavlova

mangothoughts · 05/12/2020 12:12

We love a banoffee pie - so easy to make, the kids normally help me bash up the biscuits.

sweetheartyparty · 05/12/2020 12:43

Bread and butter pudding made with panettone. Delicious

ScouseQueen · 05/12/2020 13:07

Always buy in pudding given all the other cooking. Will be an Xmas pud but also M&S tiramisu which is lush.

BearSoFair · 05/12/2020 16:37

Trifle here too! I'm going to show DH all these trifle responses, he always thinks it seems too old fashioned for Christmas!

ApolloandDaphne · 05/12/2020 16:41

Apparently we are having a poached pear trifle. DD1 saw a recipe and volunteered to make it. Who am I to say no! We will need something else as DD1 isn't fond of trifle. Maybe chocolate roulade or banoffee pie.

Tigger001 · 05/12/2020 16:49

We have a millionaire Christmas sponge thing , a nice roulade, honeycombed bites, melting snowmen and mince pies
I will make a Yule log and an apple crumble for Boxing Day.

herecomesthsun · 05/12/2020 17:07

I love the idea of the Iceland croquembouche but 60 profiteroles between 2 adults and 2 children after Xmas dinner might be a bit too much?

TheShoeLady · 05/12/2020 17:29

I’m making a Croquembouche - I actually work as a cake maker so I’m making some to sell in the week before Xmas and will make an extra one for me Grin. This was my first one, so hoping everything I’ve learned since then will make it even better.

What dessert are you having on Christmas Day?
TrickyD · 05/12/2020 17:31

They will happily keep in the fridge for a day or two. You can pinch one every time you open it. They will soon disappear.

TrickyD · 05/12/2020 17:33

TheShoeLady, that’s a step up from Iceland! It is wonderful.

Lightsabre · 05/12/2020 18:21

Sherry trifle! Aldi do an amazing lemon tart that has won awards - it's in the freezer section - sharp enough to cut through the richness of Xmas day stodge.

Tigger001 · 05/12/2020 18:49

@TheShoeLady that is a true delight. It looks amazing.

baggies · 05/12/2020 18:50

Always apple crumble with custard an/or thick cream. Also chocolate concrete again with c/thick cream. Both made day before.

Newstart20 · 05/12/2020 19:15

I normally make a Yule log, its really easy to do and looks super effective

TheShoeLady · 05/12/2020 19:18

@TrickyD

TheShoeLady, that’s a step up from Iceland! It is wonderful.
Thank you Tricky! And Tigger too.

I must admit when I saw the posts about Iceland and Tesco doing them I was a little worried, especially as the Iceland one is only £5 for 60 buns!! Any other year I’d have leapt at that, but having tried the real thing, I must admit, mine will taste 100x better Grin

TheShoeLady · 05/12/2020 19:34

Doh! Name change fail.

TrickyD · 05/12/2020 19:56

TheShoeLady, I was quite happy with my Iceland version as we have enjoyed it for the last two years, but now I will be hankering after one of yours. Xmas Envy

BestIsWest · 05/12/2020 20:02

Pavlova with fresh fruit and cream, it’s become a tradition. DH will have Christmas pudding and custard. DS traditionally has Vienetta. There will also be cheesecake and a chocolate log, Colin the caterpillar if I can get one.
