What dessert are you having on Christmas Day?

DH not too keen on Christmas pudding so we have to do something else.

I just did a trial run of Nigellas Tiramisu with basically half a bottle of Tia Maria in it. It is lovely, but it is too heavy after a full on roast. I'd make it again but I'd swap some TM for coffee. I'm sure my DS was a bit wasted after eating it.

What desserts are you having. I want to do something decedent, but not too heavy. A few years back we did Delia's chocolate torte and it was so rich I binned it. I keep thinking possibly a fancy cheesecake?

Nigella has a chestnut cheesecake in 'feast' which is lovely, also an apple cinnamon one I think, last year I made a chocolate hazelnut pavlova which was a hit!!

Buzzer3555 · 04/12/2020 20:15

Crack open an iceland cheesecake...lob in some fresh rasperries...flop on some cream..enjoy

Doilooklikeatourist · 04/12/2020 20:20

Sherry trifle
Melting middle chocolate pudding ( not quite get out the fridge and eat , butt you can make them in advance and they don't take long to cook )
And yes , as has been said
Celebrations

I'm wondering the same

Going to attempt a chocolate Yule

Lemon posset so easy and light. Shop bought short breads

Eton mess is easy and light. Make meringue the day before and then Chuck in a bowl and mix up just before eating

WokesFromHome · 04/12/2020 20:30

I am just looking at Nigella's Chocolate and raspberry pavlova now pavs have been mentioned. I could use the egg yolks to make custard to be poured over a bought Christmas pudding for those who like it.

@maddiemookins16mum

Same here. Tend to have coffee and dig into the chocolates!!!

MrsLebowski · 04/12/2020 20:35

We always have dessert later in the day as too full after the main course. Haven't decided what yet but that tiramisu sounds nice.

BeamerTown · 04/12/2020 21:07

We always have Mary Berry’s lemon meringue icecream. It’s rich but not too rich and the tartness of the lemon curd cuts through the heavy roast. Easy to make and if you freeze it in a round bowl and serve it upside down you can decorate it with a holly leaf it looks like a lovely Christmas pudding!

Sexnotgender · 04/12/2020 21:16

I saw a recipe for a pecan pie cheesecake that sounded amazing, I hate Christmas pudding.

WeAllHaveWings · 04/12/2020 21:37

Choice of M&s chocolate pine ones, profiteroles, Christmas Colin the caterpillar, Trifle,

There are only 3 of us now so that will be over 4-5 days.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 04/12/2020 21:45

The trick isn't the choice of pushing, it's the gap. No one wants pudding straight after a roast let alone a Christmas dinner. We usually have lunch around 3, and pudding early evening , it can also provide a welcome reprieve if the chosen board game is too long and boring

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 04/12/2020 21:46

*choice of pudding

Amerimoon · 04/12/2020 21:46

Always chocolate mousse - my favourite! May just buy some of those Gü pots if I’m pressed for time. Maybe some strawberries/ orange slices too. Then we’ll have a few drinks.. then get out the cheese!!

Pumpkinpied · 04/12/2020 22:10

Trifle, DM’s recipe. Very simple but nothing says Christmas more to me than her trifle. It’s also a way of honouring and remembering the mum I miss so very much.

Hairwizard · 04/12/2020 22:44

Lidl has some lovely posh looking desserts in the frozen section.
Trifle
Tescos have a choc mousse gateau thingy that looks nice.
Mince pies warmed up with a dollop of fresh cream
Lemon cheesecake
Pavlova
As already said the trick is not to eat it straight after the dinner.
We usually leave it an hour then pile out the sweet treats and desserts with tea or coffee

Then after tea time we have sandwiches and more savoury snacks along with the sweet treats

goose1964 · 04/12/2020 23:37

This year DS1 is going to make a cappuccino cheesecake

SushiGo · 05/12/2020 06:29

Pavlova! Put the cream and fruit on on the day but you can make the base the night before and leave it in the oven overnight to cool.

I love Christmas pudding as well though.

WokesFromHome · 05/12/2020 06:43

Think I am going to go pavlova route as we are making double ice cream to tide us over the few days and so will have egg whites left over.

So, I can make it the night before but what is the reason for leaving it in the oven to cool? I get not putting it in the fridge but what about at room temp, covered to be out of the way or where do I put it/ what do I do with it when I need the oven? complete novice

I will be leaving a gap after the roast as I am not running round again after my guests with more food later in the day.

We usually got for a nice sharp lemon torte (none of us like Christmas pudding). But this year I have been tempted by a sherry trifle Grin

RoseZinfandel · 05/12/2020 08:46

I am making a biscoff cheesecake.

Last year I did a toffee apple meringue roulade, which went down well, but was stressful to make.

We love Christmas pudding but we have it on Boxing Day after bubble and squeak.

It helps prevent cracking from cooling too fast after cooking.

Basically make the mix in the evening the day before cooking (I do 100dc fan for 2 hours but recipes vary) then turn off oven without opening the door and leave the pav inside the oven overnight. Take it out first thing in the morning and you can leave it on the side until needed.

Pipapple · 05/12/2020 08:58

We are having pavlova, trifle and steamed ginger pudding 😍

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 05/12/2020 09:01

We’re having panacotta and chocolate fondants with various accompaniments.

FinallyHere · 05/12/2020 09:08

Fresh orange slices in boozy juice

Delicious, light.

Christmas pudding after a decent interval, hours or maybe days later.
