Supermarket? Butchers? Have you pre ordered or are you waiting to pick one up nearer the time?

Pre ordered a turkey crown, pork pie, pigs in blankets and sausage meat from local independent butcher. Pick up on 23rd.

APurpleSquirrel · 04/12/2020 20:28

Have pre-ordered a turkey crown, ham, & pigs in blankets from our local butchers. DH ordered it though & hasn't given them a pick-up date so he has to still sort that Hmm

Pipandmum · 04/12/2020 20:29

Tesco basted turkey crown with stuffing. Getting collected Dec 23 (waited in a queue for three hours after they released slots but could only get click and collect).

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 04/12/2020 20:31

Ordered at farm shop, reared on a local farm.

ChequerBoard · 04/12/2020 20:32

Turkey is ordered from local farm and I will collect it a couple of days before Xmas. Chipolatas, bacon and gammon joint will also be ordered from a different farm shop where we usually buy our weekly meat.

MiscellaneousMinutiae · 04/12/2020 20:35

Collecting it 23rd December from Booths.

LadyEloise · 04/12/2020 20:45

Marks or Aldi.
Marks had none last year when I went to buy mine so I popped in to Aldi and got one. It was delicious.
The manager in Marks said she couldn't get one either Smile

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 04/12/2020 21:01

We’ve had turkeys from Aldi several times in the past and all have been very nice.

OutingMyself · 04/12/2020 21:03

I'm not. I'm going to someone else's house and they are cooking a goose, which they ordered a couple of weeks ago.

Littlemissnutcracker · 04/12/2020 21:04

Local butcher. Collect early christmas eve

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 04/12/2020 21:07

Pre ordered from butcher's for delivery 23rd. It's a crown though, got a beef joint and gammon coming with it.😁

SenecaFallsRedux · 04/12/2020 21:14

I'm American; most of us don't eat turkey at Christmas since we have just had a holiday where turkey-eating takes center stage. We will pick up an already cooked ham a few days before Christmas.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 04/12/2020 21:19

We generally don’t have turkey either. Most often it’s goose. Sometimes duck, sometimes roast pork. We always have a Christmas ham, though, cooked on the 23rd so we can eat it on Christmas Eve through to Boxing Day. One of these days we’ll do a rib of beef.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 04/12/2020 21:19

Sorry, bit of a derail. I love roasts and get very excited talking about them...

Borris · 04/12/2020 21:24

We collect from a farm down the road on Christmas Eve

Bonkerz · 04/12/2020 21:29

Bought my Christmas meat a few weeks ago. Lamb gammon turkey crown and pork and giant pigs in blankets. Thank god I did because we all went down with covid and I lost 2 weeks wages and decembers wage is dire due to finishing 18th!

Beecham · 04/12/2020 21:30

Ordered free range bird from a local farm shop. I think paying a bit more for higher welfare standards and better taste is well worth it. Plus I've ordered stuffing and pigs in blankets so I don't have to think about buying those at the supermarket.

WeAllHaveWings · 04/12/2020 21:33

M&s food to order turkey crown. 24th 10am

CrazyBaubles · 04/12/2020 21:34

We pre-ordered about a month ago from DHs friend who owns a small farm. Had one from her the year before last and it was so tasty. She only had 20 this year and between my family and ILs we've nabbed 5 of them!

Cheesypea · 04/12/2020 21:35

I've put my foot down, bought a chicken crown from lidl. It's in the freezer. I'm sick of eating Turkey till new year.

avamiah · 04/12/2020 21:36

There is only 3 of us so I usually get a Turkey Crown from Waitrose or M&S as they are both local to me and always have a huge stock in on the 22/23rd .

Lalanbaba · 04/12/2020 22:59

I already have everything in my freezer, 2 crowns of turkey from Aldi, smoked gammon from tesco and a whole fillet of beef from an online butchers.
Still waiting to see if will be only us three or my in-laws are coming. Either way we will eat everything at some point.

MrsMiaWallis · 04/12/2020 23:02

Mines been in the freezer for a few weeks.

We have a turkey on Boxing Day or the 27th (beef on xmas day), and tbh a frozen one is absolutely fine, especially as its all the trimmings that are the nice bit anyway.

Spanielsanddaughters · 06/12/2020 10:10

From the garden... hatched, reared, despatched and cooked on site. We’re quite excited!
