Good Christmas films (for kids and adults) - I mean properly good, not so bad they are good

I'll start. I have enjoyed:

Last Holiday
Christmas Chronicles
Christmas with the Coopers
Bad Santa

DCs, aged 7 and 9 have enjoyed anything shit with Christmas in the title :
Christmas with the Kranks
Princess Switch
Christmas Chronicles 2 (which honestly really is a pile of utter tripe)

Of course we all love Elf, but who doesn't!

@HoxtonBonnet I haven’t but thank you, I’ll keep an eye out!

DrDavidBanner · 02/12/2020 20:12

That sounds great. I'll look out for The Office Set too.

Just started watching Last Christmas with Danerys Targaryen, is it worth sticking with?

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 02/12/2020 20:14

We love The Rise of the Guardians. It's actually about Easter but Jack Frost and Santa Claus figure heavily so it feels wintery. I wouldn't recommend it for very young children though. Perhaps from about age 8 upwards. Pitch Black is quite a scary character!

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 02/12/2020 20:38

@HerbErtlinger & @DrDavidBanner the Bishop’s Wife is on Amazon Prime. Don’t confuse it for the remake (Whitney Houston and...I want to say Denzel Washington?)

DrDavidBanner · 02/12/2020 20:50

Thanks Holly I'll look it up.

Last Christmas was rubbish I'm watching Sleepless in Seattle instead

NemoRocksMyWorld · 02/12/2020 20:55

I love klaus. I'm a grown up, and it's animated, but I don't even care... Its that good. The kids and I think it is Santa's "real" origin storyGrin

Thanks, I know what I'll be watching tomorrow once I've packed DS to playgroup!

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 02/12/2020 21:01

I’d also recommend Rare Exports: a Christmas Tale (Finnish). It’s not a cosy film, though.

And of course there’s the old classics like White Christmas and Holiday Inn.

Methenyouplus4 · 03/12/2020 06:03

You all HAVE to watch a 1980s Christmas film called 'A Christmas Story'.

It is utterly charming, heart warming, amusing and no mention of 'SC is made up' etc.

I especially rate as good for probably age 5/6 up, but also our 16 year old son was chuckling away.

Unfortunately not available on prime/netflix, but defo worth a watch (we've seen it a few times but still paid to rent it in prime the other night).

Had to mention it as it's brilliant yet rarely mentioned.

Also love the more commonly heard of:
Wonderful Life
Home Alone
Elf
Klaus
Gremlins
The Snowman

Plus if they count, Christmas episode of The Office and Gavin and Stacey.

stayathomer · 03/12/2020 06:18

Deck the halls about 2 houses fighting over Christmas light, has Danny devito and kristen chenoweth but just be warned there's a 'who's your daddy' moment that I cringed at with the kids

stayathomer · 03/12/2020 06:19

Ps loved the new film Noelle

Toilenstripes · 03/12/2020 06:23

White Christmas
A Christmas Story
Christmas Vacation

We actually turned off Bad Santa because it was so rude, and Elf gave me a headache.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 03/12/2020 06:33

I love Bad Santa, but I do have to be in the mood for rude humour...

Nonochair · 03/12/2020 06:45

Arthur Christmas
Muppet Christmas carol
Nativity
Elf
The kids love Santa Paws. I tolerate it

Then we always have to watch the royle family and vicar of dibley Christmas specials

Soubriquet · 03/12/2020 08:27

I’m currently enjoining Christmas chronicles

Better than I expected

I also like
Elf
Polar express
Santa Claus 1/2/3
Arthur Christmas
Noelle

Susiesue61 · 03/12/2020 15:43

I love a cheesy film but actually really enjoyed Christmas with the Coopers 😆 DS1 and DS2 will watch Home Alone and DS2 enjoys Santa cLause - he's 15!!
DD won't watch any 😕 Actually sometimes she can be persuaded by Nativity

TheMarzipanDildo · 03/12/2020 15:52

I do like Polar Express but yes it is creepy.

Muppets Christmas Carol all the way.

Lollypop4 · 03/12/2020 16:33

Home Alone 1&2 have been a huge hit so far (1st year my 5&3 yr old have been interested in a film)
Miracle on 34st is my favourite.
Not keen On , Elf & really don't get Polar express' at all !

BarbarAnna · 03/12/2020 16:36

I don’t think anyone has mentioned Get Santa!!!! Brilliant movie!

Liverbird77 · 03/12/2020 19:56

Aside from the usual, there's a kid's film I love called The Star. I can't wait until my dcs are old enough to watch with me.
