Quick ideas for elf on the effing shelf

I promised myself last year was the last year as the kids (far to old for it ) were so bored by it after a week but at the weekend my son got upset and confused as to whether it was real and I said 'well you need to decide whether to believe in the magic ...' and I could see if I didn't do the bloody elf it would shatter all his childhood Christmases (over dramatic yes!!)
So long story short I've got to do it and the kids remember all the previous years elf activities - I just want really quick ideas -eg marshmallows for a snowball fight , loo roll down the stairs, ball pool in the sink , flour snow angel etc etc
Please post any similar things you've done with yours ...

Green food colouring in loo for Elf Wee

Stick him on top of Xmas tree
Place him outside admiring the lights
In fridge eating dessert
In the sweet tin
Strapped in rear of car before they get in
Snuggled asleep in bed surrounded by all the soft toys

00100001 · 01/12/2020 21:02

why can't you repeat activities? Confused

Sandytoes86 · 01/12/2020 21:03

A quick easy one ...sellotape him to a wall with a sign saying ‘the floor is lava’
Or have him attempt to bake a cake ..bowl and whisk flour everywhere etc

helloxhristmas · 01/12/2020 21:06

Green wee
Any colour in the milk / water in the fridge
Flour angels
Knickers on tree
Smoking toilet
Wrapping paper toilet
Sellotape the kids door shut

Buy some props on eBay.

I'm sick of the fuckers but kids firmly believe. They (yes multiple, they had a baby last year too ffs, I must have been on the gin...They won't be here until weekend if the 12th, they've sent a letter to say SD has meant more work to do In the toy workshops.

So glad I don't have to do this anymore but DD still remembers some of the funny things our 'Elphie' got up to:

Put DD's knickers all over the Christmas tree
Inside cereal box
Surrounded by empty celebration wrappers on sofa
Surrounded by DVDs and sat on remote
Turned the milk green - just the last 2 inches
Snuggled in her bed one night so DD woke up to her by her pillow
Inside DD school bag with a cheeky note to the teacher

Can't remember many more but hopefully it's given you some new ideas.

Paper with graffiti tag on it
Muddy chocolate footprints
Hanging by foot on the sweet treats cupboard
Holding onto the bottom of a pulled down loo roll
Sat in/by bowl water for a bath
By/in an addressed envelope
Elf with a thermometer

Whitewhite · 01/12/2020 21:17

Drew a moustache on me with eyeliner whilst I was sleeping
Toothpaste splash whilst trying to brush his teeth
Tomato sauce splash
This year we will use a face mask as a hammock
For him

A friend of mines just put hers in "quarantine"
He's in a little cardboard isolation booth and he has to stay there for 2 weeks before moving about the house!

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 01/12/2020 21:20

Pants in the tree.
Cereal "snow" angel.
Eating chocolate/biscuits.
Odd shoes in a line with the elf in the first one and dolls/teddies in the other and a sign with "all aboard the shoe shoe train".
Dress up in front of the mirror with my cheap jewellery/hair clips.
Cotton wool snow ball fight.

Stuck outside overnight.
Toilet paper snowman.
Colouring in a colouring book.
Dry wipe moustaches and glasses on the pictures around the house.
Snuggled up in bed with them.
Stuck under a pint glass.
Played tic tac toe with another game and a game left unfinished.
Swapped daddy's socks with her socks.
Stuck in the cereal box for her breakfast.(she gets it herself)

Drawing faces on eggs with a sharpie, one egg cracked and x x for eyes.

Stuck googly eyes on random things in the house.

MutteringDarkly · 01/12/2020 21:22

Silly recipe on a postcard you can cook later
Choc chips everywhere - elf poop
Use whatever toys are easily to hand - Lego, jigsaw puzzle, riding in toy cars etc

Basically, get on Pinterest Grin

ritzbiscuits · 01/12/2020 22:55

The one my DS remembered from last year was 'playing the switch!' Easy!

Other ideas...

Eating Nutella
Ill with box of tissues and bit of red make up to make him look flushed
Replace him as the fairy on the Xmas tree
Playing with Lego, a game with another toy

grassisjeweled · 01/12/2020 22:59

Just to share back a few I've done in the past/
Elf school - elf at blackboard with toy class

Elf and other toys wrapped up
Elf playing PlayStation- games everywhere
Elf spelled out various Christmas words in cereal, Lego, Hama beads etc etc
Elf photos covering family photos (this was year one when I was really into it !)

Put in a glass and turn glass upside down. Put in Christmas tree. Put in cutlery drawer.

MarmaladeTeepee · 13/12/2020 07:36

We've got 2 - last night I wrapped their hats/hair in a flannel each and smeared on some clay face mask - DD thought it was hilarious. If I could have been bothered I would have cut out mini cucumber circles for their eyes, but I couldn't so I didn't!

MarmaladeTeepee · 13/12/2020 07:39

I've also shoved them in DDs slippers and had them 'sledging' down the stairs. That was another nice easy one.

OwlinaTree · 13/12/2020 09:20

This was ours yesterday!

elQuintoConyo · 13/12/2020 22:10

Put him in the fridge cos he misses the cold?

Asleep under a book - perhaps an annual of something hardback that your dc have.

Hiding insid the cereal box, so dc don't find him until they pour.

Splat on the floor with a chalk outline, like he's a dead body? Xmas Grin

clpsmum · 13/12/2020 22:15

Unfortunately ours was a victim of covid and died!

ShitUsername · 13/12/2020 22:21

@clpsmum 😂😂😂

Following this thread for ideas as ours are returning tomorrow after a 14 day quarantine in the North Pole...

bouncydog · 13/12/2020 22:43

All adults here so - ours has been in elf isolation sat in the fruit bowl. I. Past years it’s been found parachuting down from the conservatory I. DH’s pants! Found wedged under the toilet seat after a heavy night being ill 🤮 zip wiring across the conservatory roof. Best one was when DD was back from Uni and he was found playing poker on the table with the garden gnomes, smoking a pretend joint with shot glasses of something!

clpsmum · 13/12/2020 22:44

@ShitUsername glad yours made it lol!! Glad ours didn't tbh 🤣🤣

Littlemissnutcracker · 13/12/2020 22:52

We don't overcomplicated it.
He generally just moves around. Tonight hanging out of a top drawer closed.
Other ideas - Happy face painted with toothpaste on a mirror.
Rocking around a Teddy christmas tree
Teddy bears picnic
Outside - head through letterbox
In the rice tubberware box
Reading
Sleeping

I'm going to print elf twister and elf superhero costumes tomorrow.

Simplyunacceptable · 14/12/2020 13:36

My DC always remember the simpler ones such as sticking googly eyes on the fruit and vegetables, eating hummus in the fridge, climbing into their beds, being wrapped in bog roll. I’ve done other things over the years like turning them into Harry Potter and Hermione but they still always recall the more simple ones.

Simplyunacceptable · 14/12/2020 13:38

Oh, I stuck little Pom poms on the noses of various pieces of artwork and photographs around the house. So Bowie and Frida kahlo had big Pom Pom noses for example. DC loved it and it only took me 2 mins before bed.
