If you are all adults/non santa believers, when do you put presents under your tree?

Just chatting (on-line) with friends who are doing some wrapping this weekend and I said that I was leaving my wrapping until the tree was up as it's easier just to wrap and then put straight under the tree and friends were surprised that I put the presents under the tree before Christmas Eve/Day.

My DC are adults, we know that Santa isn't coming so i don't see the problem? I've done this since DC have been teenagers.

To be fair it's not the way I grew up though i did leave home at 18 and I'm the youngest. Up until then all presents would "appear" on christmas morning.

AIBU? What happens in your house?

If we are given presents by other people they go under the tree as they arrive, but I don't put our own out until Christmas Eve. Mind you I'm not usually doing the wrapping til Christmas Eve so its a result of my general disorganisation rather than because I think it is "wrong" to put presents under the tree sooner.

All adults in our house too & I have my presents wrapped before the tree goes up & then they go under as soon as it's up I like the look of them under the tree & saves having to hide them somewhere.

Christmas Eve for us I still enjoy having Christmas Day, it’s not the same at midnight.

dottiedaisee · 29/11/2020 15:45

All presents under the tree as they are wrapped, so pile gets bigger over a couple of weeks.Santa only delivers stocking presents!

jerometheturnipking · 29/11/2020 15:46

Our children still believe in Santa so it's a moot point for now, but before we had the DC we put them out on Christmas Eve night, it was the same when I lived at home and no one believed any more.

We put ours out cmas eve,

Most presents go under as they are wrapped. The Santa presents go out the night before. No, we don’t have any believers, but Santa brings presents to all children, regardless of belief. He also now brings stockings to the adults because the kids who no longer believe that that would be fun.

I wish I could put the, under there early but I have a teen dd with ASD who likes to take things, I don’t think she could help herself so we put the, under there on Christmas Eve.

Angbunnyboo · 29/11/2020 18:02

I'm 42 and my sis is 41 and my parents still put the presents out on Xmas Eve after we've gone to bed. Its tradition. Parents presents from us go under the tree on Xmas Eve and anyone else's as we get them.

I should add that both me and sis have our own houses and partners, and neither of us have kids so I think my parents still think of us as children!

Father Christmas only brings the stocking here so in theory the presents can go straight under the tree and did when they were younger and didn't get so much.
But this year my DD has a keyboard, stand and stool and the boxes are massive and I'll be tripping over them if I put them under the tree when we get it. I will probably put some smaller things under there and presents for others that we'll deliver on CE I'll put under there to make some room in my bedroom. Any presents that arrive through the post will go under there too. Then CE once the DC are in bed I'll bring the rest of theirs down before filling the stockings!

Main reason we don't put them under the tree is space. Tend to put them in front of the fire place on Christmas Eve. (The tree is in the corner of the room where the TV normally is, then the TV is front of the bookcase, so it's surrounded on three sides. Plus there's a train under the tree, and the Christmas dinosaurs...

Hangingover · 29/11/2020 19:34

Me and DP must be very boring as we don't do a tree or presents!

Hangingover · 29/11/2020 19:35

(we don't have any DC obvs. I'm not that awful Grin )

wendz86 · 29/11/2020 19:43

Even as adults we didn’t put them out till Christmas Eve night .

MrsJBaptiste · 29/11/2020 19:59

Presents for family go under the tree as they're wrapped.

Presents for the kids go under when they're in bed on Christmas Eve.

Stockings will be filled and go on the landing this year. I can't be bothered to wait until they've nodded off to get into their bedrooms - they're 13 & 16 now and go to bed much later than we do!

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/11/2020 20:04

I had two sets of stockings and they would hang them on their door handle (outside of door) . When I went to bed I'd just swap the empty ones for full ones.

We're not all adults in our house and our presents for others have always gone under the tree as and when they are wrapped.
Obviously DS's presents don't go under the tree but they never have, all our Christmas presents are laid out on the sofa for DS and a big gift bag for me and DH's presents. Extended family under the tree immediately and immediate family stays hidden till Christmas Eve night, even as adults in my family (this still happens in my mums with my adult siblings that live at home)
