If your teen likes manga

She's into full metal alchemist, soul eater etc

What else might she like?

She's 15 and relatively sensitive. I am aware that not all manga is suitable for younger readers which makes it difficult to choose. At 15 she probably wants something more adult but some of these books have a fair amount of sexual violence which she wouldn't like.

I watched Death note anime with her last night which was rated 12 and my face was ShockHmm at the rating. The books are defined as adult and flicking through, it was pretty disturbing. Saying that, i was actively seeking disturbing when i was a teen .

Also any presents surrounding the genre?

My dd is 13 and has previously liked:

Fairytale
Ultra Maniac
Sailor Moon
Princess Jellyfish (but probably anything by Akiko Higashimura)

Agree it's so hard to find age appropriate, often the ratings on a website don't match up with the book that arrives. My dd had been into manga since she was 7 and started with Chi's Sweet Home and Yotsuba&I and from there I have really struggled to find something each birthday/Christmas that isn't basically porn so I've added to series of the above. Not Manga more graphic novels but does she like the Alice Oseman Heart Stopper graphic novels? Because there are several novels by the same author which link in that I am getting my dd this year.

Sorry it's Fairytail not Fairytale

I think Fruits Basket is pretty inoffensive. Also a great story and super cute.

Passthecake30 · 29/11/2020 15:02

My son likes Tokyo ghoul. He’s pretty sensitive/ has anxiety and he seems fine with these. We did however, try to watch one on Netflix the other day, I got completely freaked out by the graphics and had to turn it off. I thinks it’s worse on tv.

Seraph of the End is adored by my fifteen year old daughter and her twelve year old sister enjoys it too.

My ds is a sensitive 12 year old but he loves My Hero Academia. You can get lots of books and stuff from Amazon
My dd likes Attack on Titan but that's fairly ott.

TheoriginalLEM · 29/11/2020 19:50

I think my dd has seen all the my hero academia stuff.

I might get her a tokyo ghoul book and see how she gets on.

My 13yo has Chi's sweet home, The girl from the otherside, My next life as a villainess, Little witch academia. Those are just a few off the top of my head.

WellThankyouAJPTaylor · 29/11/2020 21:18

My 15yo has just gone to bed or I'd ask her!

Her wishlist included Tokyo Ghoul, Queen's Quality by Kyosuke Motomi and something called Girl From The Other side by Nagabe.

TalesTheCat · 29/11/2020 23:37

My dd who loved death note now loves
Akira
Totoro
Howels moving castle
(Unsure of spelling)

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 29/11/2020 23:43

I really like solo leveling manga and the art can speak for itself honestly. The best art I've seen in any manga. Every panel is just so detailed and beautiful to look at. The character design and development was also pretty great. Overall I loved it.
