Adult children of separated parents & Christmas - 2020 style!

DH & I are both lucky enough to have living parents in good health; however both sets are separated with long-established partners, so we have four pairs of parents, and five siblings/step-siblings. We have no DC yet (fertility not playing ball, & not fancying another MC during Covid, so have paused TTC for now) but are getting a long-awaited puppy in early December.

We usually spend the festive period rushing around trying to see everyone and avoid causing offence (always offend one of our mums, as I can't eat two full Christmas dinners 😂), but this year we have a real dilemma;

A. See two sets of the four (or one set + a sibling), likely causing offence to those we don't see.

B. Offend everyone, stay home with new puppy, eat entire box of Quality Street to ourselves*.

*Possibly see one sibling as it's their baby's first Christmas, suggest meeting everyone else at separate times over the festive period for a walk.

Anyone else secretly looking forward to not running from house to house?!

Definitely B, this year is the year to get out of the non offending scenarios and just say it would be too hard to choose between you all.

B no contest, enjoy.

We have the same issue in a way and are just seeing dh step mum. Her husband (DH father) died suddenly 5 years ago. She has no other family at all. So we are her bubble. Both of our Mum's have kicked off, but they have other children (our brothers and sisters) so won't be on their own. You have to do what you have to do! We are looking forward to a quiet one!! 🎄🍾

We have three sets of parents between us and set a precedent of doing B fifteen years ago. I fully recommend it. Grin

foodtoorder that's the perfect wording, thank you!

Squirrelblanket I envy your resolve! Tbh I usually quite enjoy it (mainly as I don't have to cook Grin) but looking forward to a very chilled out day.

Thanks all - glad I'm not the only one with this predicament, just need to work out where to go for a Boxing Day walk without parking being too much of a headache now!
