ideas for present for 2 year old (was 2 in June).

He's already got:-

Balance bike
play kitchen
rocking horse
play fire station
play helter skelter (rubbish)
play tent
beanbag
toy car you move with feet

etc - he'd love a puppy/kitten but not happening (joke).

What do 2/3 year old boys like? His DM was saying Montessori stuff but my DM (DGM) says no and he will learn this himself.

Already got Brightstuff (I think) catalogue.

Watching for ideas on this too

ShinyGreenElephant · 25/11/2020 13:30

My 2yo has got a Pikler triangle and ramp/slide, a mud kitchen, a big wooden shop and accessories, a Toniebox with a variety of characters then some doll stuff like sling etc as I'm having her baby sister soon. She turned 2 this month. Also a big ball run, magnetic tiles, few dressing up bits loads of books, a few duplo sets... think thats it. Thats for her bday as well not all just for Christmas, and some from my parents.

We’ve bought our nearly 3 year old a pedal trike.

Wooden train set

Farm yard barn and animals

Car transporter.

My little one loves paw patrol so we’ve got him some secondhand paw patrol vehicles and figures.

hmmm - car transporter and pedal bike sounds good.

I don't think he knows what Paw Patrol is LOL.

The Pikler trainage and ramp/slide sound like good ideas as do the mud kitchen, he's got a till and a sort of mini shop.

He's got dressing up bits, books, duplo etc - and also the magnetic tiles.

got no idea what Toniebox is so will google that, thanks!

He's not mine by the way is DNephew - but I know what his DPs, DGPs etc have bought him or are planning to buy him.

His DM though lovely can be a bit PC - e.g. for our DNiece she wanted to get all ELC stuff or wooden toys etc - I got her a doll (her first, but didn't know it was her first) dressed in Bumblebee outfit for her 1st or 2nd birthday and DNiece adored it!

At that age, the most popular toys in my house we're Happyland (or similar), Duplo/Megablocks, the trainsets, fancy dress and dinosaurs.

Youngest is now 7. Train set recently moved on (but they still like their Dads Hornby set!) Duplo has turned into Lego, Happyland into Playmobil and Barbie's etc, and the dinosaurs are still loved.

Another idea... Doll pram, shopping trolley, wheelbarrow etc. Toddlers seem to live pushing stuff around.

LooneyLovefood · 25/11/2020 14:09

How about an easel? You can get them with adjustable legs so it can change heights as he grows. Then you can provide lots of paints, crayons, chalks and paper etc to go alongside it.

He loves his dinosaurs - great uncle and aunt got him for his birthday one of those dinosaur robot music toys - which DP's decided they weren't having.

He loves music - has keyboard with microphone.

He has a wheelbarrow but will see what else he 'pushes' and has.

we were looking for a kids meccano set.

He also likes baking and eating a lot!

Fancy dress! My little boy is 3 and he loved getting dressed up at this age! :)

ShinyGreenElephant · 25/11/2020 14:34

@CleverCatty the Toniebox plays music and stories when you put different characters on the top - you can get Julia Donaldson ones, Disney, nursery rhymes etc and record your own. It's a nice screen-free bit of technology, we do have Alexa in the playroom but DD has a speech delay and Alexa cant understand her 😂 And is nice for them to listen to grandparents etc reading stories to them when they're not able to see them at the moment

the Toniebox sounds perfect - depending on budget I may not get it - DP's might - but he loves Julia Donaldson - Gruffalo etc!

They don't have an Alexa yet - well at their own home but they're living away from there at the moment.

He loves nursery rhymes - but the ones we find are on Macbook, google, very American and cartoony but actually not too bad - he loves them though! Smile

My little one adores this

This will be one thing - thanks so much - he adores tractors and any big boy stuff!

His DF sometimes works with wood - helped build a playground in Bristol - and he took DS with him for the day to get wood with the other workers - saw the big cutting saw, diggers etc and was with the adult workers - it was I think the best day in my DNephew's life LOL Smile.

Playdoh? My ds loves it and can lots of different kits

Treaclewading · 25/11/2020 18:49

Vet set
Duplo
Cash register

Globalpandemicmum · 25/11/2020 18:56

My two year old dd is nearly 3 but the stuff she’s liked playing with at different stages over the last year have been:

Mud kitchen
Keyboard
Train set
Doctors set
Fancy dress costumes
Duplo
Play dough
Drawing
Puzzles
Paw patrol toys
Tea set

Little Dutch have lots of nice wooden toys priced quite reasonably.

CCSS15 · 25/11/2020 19:07

Has he a tool box? Mine has a personalised wooden tool box from studio with his name on the front - could get a hard hat as well maybe?
