Favourite part of the Christmas meal

Following on from another thread - what is your favourite part of the Christmas feast?
Mine is most definitely Christmas pudding. Aldi's are usually lovely, and as I'm the only one who really enjoys it, we tend to have loads left over from the extra large one I buy. I put it into little Tupperware pots in the freezer with a little cream to get out from time to time - keeps me feeling Christmassy for ages afterwards! The rest is a glorified roast dinner which I can take or leave except the pigs in blankets!

Trifle

peakotter · 23/11/2020 21:44

Bubble and squeak on Boxing Day with loads of pickles and leftover stuffing.

cakewitch · 23/11/2020 21:46

All of it.

Chickenwing · 23/11/2020 21:54

Stuffing is the best bit.

Then pigs in blankets.

Chickenwing · 23/11/2020 21:55

Interesting that no one says turkey Grin

LegoLady95 · 23/11/2020 21:58

Parmesan parsnips (Nigella recipe)

louisejxxx · 23/11/2020 21:58

Yorkshire puddings and the pigs in blankets for me. And the mashed potatoes. And stuffing. I can’t choose!!

Imsayingnothing · 23/11/2020 21:59

Roast potatoes with gravy unless there's Yorkshire puddings, then it's the Yorkshire puddings with gravy 😋

Sixtonskip · 23/11/2020 22:02

Pigs in blankets and stuffing, even better eaten cold the next day with pickled red cabbage!

HeronLanyon · 23/11/2020 22:05

Roast potatoes slathered in butter and some red currant jelly.
Closely followed by mashed potato with butter ‘pool’ and mega salt and pepper.
Could be called potato dinner as far as I am concerned. Grin

Inextremis · 23/11/2020 22:08

The sprouts - I know, I know, but a sprout eaten with a little bit of bread sauce and turkey gravy is just heavenly to me :)

GuillermoVanHelsing · 23/11/2020 22:14

The stuffing is the star for me.

Tbh I usually find I eat very little on the actual Xmas Day dinner, but make up for it by cramming fistfuls of stuffing, cheese and / or the Xmas ham into my gob every time I open the fridge between from the 26th until the 29th

MazDazzle · 23/11/2020 22:16

The starters: prawn and hot smoked salmon cocktail, crusty bread and butter, smoked salmon blinis, pate, chilli jam and crackers.

Delish!

After that I can take or leave the main.

Sassy306 · 23/11/2020 22:17

Has to be the homemade bread sauce... There's uproar on boxing day if there isn't enough left to have along with leftovers so usually end up having to make another pot 😂

Tana433 · 23/11/2020 22:20

Roast potatoes and sprouts all mushed up together and then drenched with really thick gravy. Followed by my body weight in mince pies or i dont call it a successful christmas dinner!

Bloodybridget · 23/11/2020 22:22

Well, I love pulling a bit of cold turkey off the carcass! But a second time round meal of all the leftovers, heated up with gravy, is often even better than first time, because there's no work involved, and it's properly hot!

Sometimes we get a pot of lumpfish roe, and I do love a teaspoon of that on a warmed mini blini, squeeze of lemon, glass of fizz, brilliant.

PirateCatQueen · 23/11/2020 22:24

Roast potatoes.

KatherineJaneway · 23/11/2020 22:25

The champagne and Yorkshire puddings

AlwaysLatte · 23/11/2020 22:26

I love the Brussels with pancetta and chestnuts that I do, also slow cooked red cabbage, and parsnips roasted with maple syrup. All things we never have any other time so synonymous with Christmas!

CosyQueen · 23/11/2020 22:26

I absolutely can’t choose between stuffing, pigs in blankets, and Stilton.
Also love a leftover sandwich the next day!

Holothane · 23/11/2020 22:29

Pigs in blankets, the fillet steak Christmas Eve, loads of nibbles when you like.

elephantoverthehill · 23/11/2020 22:30

Chestnut stuffing or turkey curry on Boxing day.

FusionChefGeoff · 23/11/2020 22:33

The last 3 mouthfuls from a plate swimming in gravy with a bit of everything in each bite.

CloudyVanilla · 24/11/2020 04:33

Roast potatoes and yes festive leftover sandwiches :)

I am vegetarian now but will be getting the Quorn roast joint and this year there are lots of fancy vegan meat replacements for stuffing and Turkey so will get those. To be honest I have always enjoyed the meat in sandwiches more than on my plate on the day, Christmas Dinner is about roasties, roast parsnips, cream cabbage and sprouts for me :)

HerbErtlinger · 24/11/2020 06:52

The stuffing without a doubt. Can't have a leftover sandwich without it!
